My Review:I am always happiest when I get to be whisked away to another fantastic location by Julie Caplin. This series of books is a wonderful mood booster, a great source of happiness and the stories are always fun and full of heart. This latest book, The Little Teashop in Tokyo, lives up the same wonderful standard as it’s predecessors. If you haven’t read any of the others in this series, do not worry. They can all be standalone books; the characters sometimes appear in other places, but the stories are different. (Please do go and read the others though - they are fab!)

Here we have Fiona, who wins the chance to go to Tokyo and experience the Japanese culture whilst being mentored by a top photographer. Cue some changes and she find herself in the very capable (but familiar) hands of famed photographer Gabe. The sparks fly from the off between these two characters and it was fun to see how they pushed each other’s buttons.  I have to hand it to Fiona, she certainly gave as good as she got in many ways!
Each location is beautifully described, as I read sat out in the sunshine, I could imagine myself in Fiona’s shoes; gazing at the cherry blossom or being wowed by Mount Fuji. I have never really had any interest in Japan/Tokyo, but I found myself being pulled into wanting to know more about the culture and traditions and Julie incorporates so much of this into the story.
Haruka is possibly one of my favourite characters; fiery yet calm, smart and sensitive – not one to cross, as Gabe found out. If I was to go to Japan, she is exactly the type of person I would like to meet.
This is a story of self-discovery, moving forward from the past and embracing what is meant for you. It shows how to see things from new perspectives, and I think it is a wonderful way to escape the current anxieties and worries.

My Review:

What a magically fun read! An array of characters and wonderful moments that will tug on heartstrings. The Unlikely Life of Maisie Meadows is enchanting, a great read that gives us Maisie and her quest to reunite a very special tea set. During this search we see how Maisie’s perspective on life changes and how this affects the relationships with those around her.

It’s a story about family, friendships, and love; it encourages you to embrace whatever comes your way, enjoy life and it’s unexpected occurrences. I also love the idea of perfection not being celebrated and that you should welcome all those quirky differences that make people special.

I loved Maisie, she’s gutsy and funny, she makes mistakes and will hold her hands up to them. I loved how she was so caring and considerate; she likes order and everything ‘in it’s rightful place’ so to speak but then we know she has that hidden ‘messy’ side where she can let go and lose control through her art. She evolves throughout the book and it only makes her more endearing, I was rooting for her all the way through – even if cringing at some of the moments of misunderstanding!

Theo is a complete contrast to Maisie, which is nice. He’s a character I instantly liked; his charm leapt from the page and I could totally understand Maisie’s increasing fondness towards him. He brought out the best in Maisie.

There is a whole host of secondary characters you will adore – each with their own quirks they learn to embrace. Each has their own story to tell but all contribute to Maisie’s story in their own way. Honestly watch out for Arthur, he’s brilliant and your heart will just burst for him.

There is just so much going on within this story, so many potentially cringy moments and misunderstandings but that just added some honesty and comedy to the story.

I highly recommend this book and definitely keep a watch out for Jenni Keer in the future!

My Review:

What an utterly charming, delightful book! I was fully immersed in Rosie's new adventure after finding herself alone and determined to prove her (quite awful sounding) husband wrong in that she isn't predictable and boring. A travelling tea shop sounds like the perfect idea to me -and I do love a book that makes me drool for the wonderful treats and delights it describes!

Rosie seems like a woman I would be friends with, shes brave, independent and really funny - I laughed out loud several times throughout. She's been pushed out of her comfort zone but she goes with it and makes the best out of each new situation. I think the combination of her and new friend Aria is wonderful.

 Aria is probably my favourite - a mobile book van, come on!! Books and a tea shop is my idea of heaven. Their friendship is so well written, they support each other perfectly. Both need someone to guide them and work through their different problems, which they do as the story progresses. I could really imagine going to some of the festivals mentioned and sitting with a book from Aria coupled with a wonderful tea from Rosie. 

I enjoyed the romantic aspect of the wonderfully annoying, yet gorgeous, Max. I liked how he continued to push Rosie into new, uncomfortable things and yet she found utter pleasure from them. He really healed her heart and confirmed her ability to be happy and push her boundaries. I think their relationship was well written, sweet and gave Rosie the happy ending I know I was hoping for. 

I have never read anything by Rebecca Raisin before - shame on me! I will be rectifying that. I loved this book, I have never felt tempted by camper vans etc but this genuinely made me imagine life on the road, having adventures and meeting new friends. 

I highly recommend - a book full of adventure, self-discovery, friendship and heart. Thank you to HQ Digital UK and Rebecca for an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley.
