My Review:

Absolutely charming from start to finish! 

Eliza J Scott’s Cupcakes and Kisses in Micklewick Bay is a sweet, heartwarming escape to the coast that had me smiling the whole way through. Returning to Micklewick Bay allows us to catch up with endearing characters that we’ve had the pleasure to read about previously, catch up on their lives while really focus on Jasmines story. These books are set in a fictional seaside town but resembles the north coast – a place that I recently enjoyed so I picture everything and feel right there. With all of Eliza’s books, we have the perfect sprinkle of romance and baked delights, but also the emotional stories of people’s lives when not going so well, or faced with difficulty. Whilst it is emotional at times, the friendships, the heart and the positivity mean it’s the perfect feel-good read. Eliza provides a story of small-town community and friendship and the joy of second chances with grace and humour. A delicious treat for fans of cute rom-coms with a dash of whimsy!

My Review:

I’ve been a fan of Helen Rolfe’s for a long time now, enjoying many great books, wonderful characters and settings. Written in the Stars is the second book in the Skylarks series – stories based around an air ambulance team in Dorset.

I loved the first book, Come Fly With Me, so was eagerly awaiting this one and it didn’t disappoint. Whilst it was nice to catch up with the characters of the first book, this time the focus was on Bess – critical care paramedic on the  team.

Bess lost her Dad a few years ago, since then she has been living (and spending money) like each day is her last. She has got herself in quite a mess but doesn’t know what to do. Shes proud and when reality hits, she needs to find support from somewhere but isn’t quite sure where.

Gio is a friend of Bess’. He is a firefighter and is also keeping parts of his life from others; having an alcoholic mother means his childhood wasn’t great, he cannot trust her even though he does still want to. When she turns up to stay with him, he gives her one chance but is convinced she will revert to type.

Gio has a great friendship with Bess, but as both their lives start unravelling in different ways, can they help each other, and will they both acknowledge their feelings for one another after all this time Both Gio and Bess learn that they must move forwards and not let the past dictate their present, put trust in people and be willing to follow their hearts.

 A cosy, seasonal romance that has drama and heart, highly recommended.

My Review:

Already a fan of Bella Osborne books, I highly anticipated a great summer read full of escapism and romance, with a dash of humour and great characters; and that  is exactly what was delivered.

The characters are what makes the book for me, Ros – awkward, straight laced, Darla – Willing to take risks, sociable, hardworking and Cameron – charming, funny, kind to all. An eclectic bunch that compliment each other well. A special mention to Gazza the dog, what a fab name ha!

Ros’ Dad hasn’t long to live and upon overhearing he wishes she would find a boyfriend, Ros forms a plan that is the start of her ordered life becoming a little more… unplanned. Cameron agrees to be her significant other; he needs the money after all but it soon becomes clear that Cameron is more than Ros took him for. Cameron brings out things in Ros she didn’t know she had.

Darla has been a best friend to Ros, even though most people would have given up and she couldn’t be less like her. She is hiding out, taking on all the jobs she can to pay off her exes debts. When a new pet sitting job turns into more than she bargained for, can she ever get on the right side of the local, grumpy farmer.

Got to love a fake relationship storyline, especially when sparks are flying and it’s clear to see the characters are bringing out the best in one another. At the heart of the story, it’s about doing what is best for those you care about, trying to make others happy no matter what. All the characters learn something about themselves and face up to things from their past.

Romance at it’s finest. I enjoyed every moment and think it’s an ideal summer read.

A fresh start among old friends…

My Review:

A gorgeous return to St Aidan for Jane Linfoot fans, with familiar faces and places but a brand new story centred around Florence May, the younger sister of Sophie. You don’t have to have read any of the previous St Aidan based books, it’s a stand alone book, but I would always recommend reading Jane Linfoot’s back catalogue as they are gorgeous reads.

Floss is returning home after a difficult time in London. Needing a change yet needing to be somewhere familiar, she is determined to forge a way forward in this new life one step at a time. Finding the perfect, most idyllic place to live, on the beach, and surrounded by her amazing family and friends (it sounds like heaven) Floss starts to find some happiness again, slowly and surely kick starting her new chapter. That is until her peace and tranquillity are threatened, and a familiar face from her past changes her plans in many ways.

Discovering her new abode comes with a catch, Floss randomly finds her home becoming the place to be for many people. Floss turns her hand to many things, but her skillset is making people feel comfortable and well-taken care of. Her concoction of random desserts are a bit (and will make your mouth water!) and she soon is in demand – in more ways than one.

Keen not to let people down but wanting to stick to her plan of not letting people get close, when her latest neighbour seems intent on being part of her life, Floss struggles to keep him at arm’s length.

I adore Floss, especially having been through so much already, she is hardworking, kind and caring, she has great relationships with people, if not always with her sister and Mother – but essentially, they do all love each other. She’s taken life by the hands and is rolling with whatever comes her way, embracing second chances even if scary and not part of her intended plan.

Full of teasingly yummy sounding goodies, this is another brilliant book by Jane and a highly recommended summer read. It's a gorgeously romantic book, with themes of friendship, community and embracing second chances.

My Review:

A follow up to the brilliant, The Love Interest, this time we have Stevie’s story. Stevie was Liv’s friend and colleague, but it was clear she had her own story to tell so I’m so pleased Victoria Walters gave us this.

I love books about books or the book world in anyway, so this was right up my street. Stevie has landed the job of her dreams – finally but she’s nervous and keen to do well. As she walks in for her first day, she is met with staff leaving, the company being taken over and a boss that she instantly recognises – her ex. Not just any ex though, the one that broke her heart and hurt her so much.

It's awkward, uncomfortable and at times I didn’t know if this situation would work for either character but when a challenge threatens the company’s success, Stevie sticks her neck out, decides to confront old pain and do what needs to be done. Will she forgive him for the hurt he caused? Possibly but she knows she wants to make this career move a success no matter what.

A slow burn but romantic, emotive and full of passion (both for books and the opposite sex) Stevie is adamant about championing romance books, that they deserve as much recognition and attention as any other. She’s a great character, I love how cool she seems no matter what.

Noah is a puzzle at first but as the story progresses, learning more about his situation, I grew fond of him and the connection between him and Stevie.

Passions of all varieties jump off the page, it sizzles with chemistry, it shouts about the love of stories and gives all romance fans a real boost.

Brilliant!

My Review:

Hooray for this new book in the Ever After Street series by Jaimie Admans. It’s an utterly charming and delightful series and this is the third visit; Cleo’s story. We have met Cleo in a previous book within the series but you can read this as a standalone.

Opening up and Alice in Wonderland themed tea room is just what Cleo has dreamed of and getting to do that on Ever After Street is the cherry on the cake. Being surrounded by friends and likeminded, fairytale loving people is just the encouragement she needed to take this opportunity.

She had left the application to the last minute but, remarkably, she was successful at her interview, the only problem – she can’t seem to bake at the moment and the cakes she gave the interviewers were shop bought. Hoping her baking mojo will return with some enthusiastic practise, she sets about getting the café ready for her opening day.

That day soon arrives and so does Bram, otherwise known as the Mad Hatter. He’s her new and unexpected employee, Cleo is far from keen as she is worried he will realise she isn’t doing the baking (yet) but she soon realises that the magic Bran brings can only help her as well as entertain the customers.

Cleo has been through some difficult times, she worries that she will lose something else that means a lot to her. Bram is wonderfully funny, helpful and so supportive of her. He has secrets and Cleo starts to see that underneath his glittery, charming character he is vulnerable and in need of someone to be fully on his side and respect who he is, quirky and all, as he faces opposition and people trying to force him to be someone he isn’t.

A fairytale story of overcoming life’s obstacles, believing in yourself and following dreams. Life isn’t always going to be a walk in the park, there are storms to weather but Cleo and Bram learn that they can get through what life throws their way.

I love the community on Ever After Street, when things get tough they all pull together and support each other. It’s a magical sounding place!

A gorgeous story with romance, highs, lows and happy ever afters; Jaimie Admans gives us just the right amount of fairytale magic. I will definitely look forward to the next visit to Ever After Street.

My Review: 

As a big fan of Helen Rolfe books, I have been eagerly awaiting Come Fly With Me and it did not disappoint! Barely a chapter in and I was hooked and knew I’d love it.

Maya is an interesting character, she is the pilot of the air ambulance and has been through quite a already in life. She’s proud of her role within the service and how she plays a part in helping so many people. I didn’t know much about the air ambulance at all so even from this fictional story, I feel like I have more understanding of what happens and how they can be utilised.

We learn more about Maya’s relationship with her Dad and why it has become so strained. As the story progresses it is great to see some communication between characters that would hopefully mean changes in their relationship. Maya’s ex is also a character that seemed to have some hold over her, she does see sense but he is not a character to like at all.

Noah has just moved into the area after heartache of his own. His life has changed dramatically and he has a new normal to adjust too. He is struggling and when an opportunity presents itself to make things easier will he take it?

The relationship between Noah and Maya is interesting and one that helps both characters. They can support one another and whilst their chemistry is instant, I enjoyed how things developed between them.

Great characters, a very different location – the air ambulance – and Helen Rolfe’s wonderful writing style. A great read for romance fans.

A fantastic start to this new series, I shall look forward to the next!

My Review:

Finding Love in Micklewick Bay is the next in a wonderful series from Eliza J Scott. It’s been a brilliant series so far but each can be read as a standalone – ‘The Little Bookshop by the Sea’ and ‘Summer Days at Clifftop Cottage; both I highly recommend.

Each book focuses on a different character within a group of friends living in a wonderful seaside setting. This book is all about Stella. She is a barrister, she’s opinionated, strong and able to stand her ground – she isn’t afraid to do or say anything needed. She is focused and determined, her friends and those she loves mean the world to her though. She doesn’t seem interested in having a relationship, but as her friends all seem to be settling down, fate seems to step in, and she meets Alex. Her irresistibly charming neighbour.

Stella also decides to learn who her father is, especially as her Mother is determined she never finds out. A book full of revelations, Stella soon realises what she was looking for may not have been worth it – in both romance and family.

I like Stella a lot, she does always assume the worst and jump to the wrong conclusions – not often giving people a chance – but she has a good heart and just doesn’t want to get hurt.

Alex suits her and I love that he has an impact on her, he is exactly the kind of man she needs. As always, its great to catch up with past characters too.

This series, the friendship group is fantastic. I wish I could go for their weekly pub catch up.

I love the writing, the setting, and the way we feel part of the community. It’s a romance at heart but covers a range of topics that will appeal to many.

I look forward to returning to the Bay and catching up everyone. Highly recommended!
