BLOGTOUR: A Cosy Christmas in Cornwall BY Jane Linfoot

A December to remember…

Christmas in a Cornish castle? Sign Ivy Starforth up! Hired to kit out the holiday rental as the world’s most Instagramable festive dreamland, there’s only one thing standing in the way of her hefty paycheque – the lord of the manor.
Bill Markham could give Scrooge a run for his money but Ivy is firmly #TeamChristmas…even if her handsome host seems to be doing everything he can to sabotage her staging. Maybe she shouldn’t have stumbled in on him starkers in the hot tub?
As the temperature outside cools, things inside the castle heat up. It’s been a long time since Ivy allowed herself to give in to temptation…surely one little kiss under the mistletoe won’t hurt?

My Review:

An absolute charm of a book from the brilliant Jane Linfoot. It’s a gorgeous, festive treat that will have you feel all warm and fuzzy for days after the end. Jane is always one of my go -to authors and this book is just as wonderful and every previous offering. I adored this book, I couldn’t read it fast enough and I know it will be one I go back and read again.

Wonderful to be back in Cornwall and around St Aiden again; if you have read any of Jane’s books you may recognise a few places. There is no cross over with any of the other stories though so don’t worry if you are new to Jane’s books.

A Cosy Christmas in Cornwall gives you everything you need in a book – humour, heart and a healthy amount of drama; you’ll be laughing one minute and feeling emotional the next a wonderful, heartfelt story.

Ivy is a wonderful character, fierce yet vulnerable. She has no qualms about speaking her mind all whilst she hides her own insecurities. Being hired by her best friends’ sister to “style” an instagramable Christmas in a hired castle, Ivy has perfect opportunity to use her creativity to make this festive season bearable.

Bill the Castle’s caretaker knows Ivy from years earlier and it is evident he was fond of her previously. A lot has happened to both characters in the time since, both have things they keep to themselves for various reasons. Bill is very anti-everything Ivy tires to do but he does reluctantly help her out. He is a puzzle; I was on his side throughout and knew he would be good for Ivy if she could learn to let him in a bit but couldn’t figure out what he was not telling her.

As the book progressed, we learn more about the lives of our characters, more about their problems and there are revelations that may change their relationships forever. There are a lot of characters involved in A Cosy Cornish Christmas and it does seem very chaotic, but I really think this adds to the story, it adds some comedic fun.

I really cannot recommend this delightful book enough, its perfect to cosy up and read. It has everything you need and more. Another masterpiece by Jane Linfoot; I’m already looking forward to more.

Author Bio:

Jane Linfoot is a best selling author, who lives in a cottage on a Derbyshire hillside with her family and their pets. Although she loves seeing cow noses over the garden wall, she’s happy she can walk to a supermarket.

Jane grew up in North Yorkshire where she spent a lot of her childhood avoiding horizontal gales blowing off the sea and wrote her first book by accident. While she loves to write feel good books that let readers escape, she’s always surprised to hear her stories make people laugh, admits to (occasionally) crying as she writes, and credits her characters for creating their own story lines.

Jane’s garden would be less brambly if she wasn’t on Facebook and Twitter so often. On days when she wants to be really scared, she rides a tandem.

Her recent stand alone novels are all set in and around the (imaginary) seaside village of St Aidan in Cornwall. They are: Ivy’s Cornish Christmas, Edie’s Browne’s Cottage by the Sea, The Little Cornish Kitchen. Her four book Little Wedding Shop series are standalone stories, also set in St Aidan. They are: The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea, Christmas at the Little Wedding Shop, Summer at the Little Wedding Shop and Christmas Promises at the Little Wedding Shop. BLOGTOUR: Notting Hill in the Snow - Jules Wake

It's mayhem in Bethlehem…unless they can work together!
Viola Smith plays the viola in an orchestra (yes really!), but this year she's been asked to stretch her musical talents to organising Notting Hill's local nativity.

Nate Williams isn't looking forward to Christmas but as his small daughter, Grace, has the starring role in the show, he's forced to stop being a Grinch and volunteer with Viola.
With the sparks between them hotter than the chestnuts roasting in Portobello market, Nate and Viola can't deny their feelings. And as the snow starts to fall over London, they find themselves trapped together in more ways than one…

My Review:
Genuinely, I am not sure anything I could write would do this beauty justice. I read it days ago (and have read a couple of books since) and I just can’t shake this book from my mind and my feelings. I have THE biggest book hangover from Notting Hill in the Snow.

I am such a huge fan of Jules Wake in every guise, I know that any time I open her books I will be transported to an amazing place with gorgeous characters who will imprint on my heart.  This book is not an exception, it will be one of my annual festive reads for sure, there is no way I can forget Viola, Nate and the adorable Grace.

Grace is the lynch pin that completely ties this story together; older than her years and so vulnerable, the relationship that develops between her and Viola is heart-warming to say the least. I enjoyed how that was the most prominent and important relationship – leaving the relationship with Nate as a complete slow burn. I wanted that to happen, don’t get me wrong but for me, what won my weary heart round was that lovely little girl finding someone she could truly rely on.

Jules writes such warm, cosy stories that are both full of emotion and amusing wit, with a patchwork of characters who will charm, some who will annoy and some who mean well but often miss the mark. Viola is a gorgeous leading lady; she’s a bit of a doormat at first and her family take advantage of her massively but as the book progressed and she got herself sorted I was cheering her on to stand up to them and say something. She is smart, funny and has an incredible heart.

Even though I had a sneaky feeling what may happen, I found it to be far more emotional that I anticipated, and I admit it nearly got me a little teary and that NEVER happens.
With a lot of really laugh out loud funny moments, gorgeous festive shenanigans and wonderfully developed relationships Jules Wake has given us something very special.

I couldn’t recommend this more if I tried. Absolutely wonderful.

On a chilly winter's day, they have twenty-four hours to prove that love can lead the way to a brighter future...

My Review:
Shari Low gives us an intense yet uplifting, emotional rollercoaster for this final installment in the Winter Day series. If you haven’t come across any of the previous books, don’t worry you will still enjoy the story here – you can read it as a standalone, but you should treat yourself and read the others too.

Shari is a brilliant, emotive writer who beautifully weaves a story that is full of drama, love, friendships and heart; a story of which that will have you fully invested in the characters from the start. You will go through a whole range of emotions and there will be characters that you adore like Caro as well as characters you cannot abide like Stacey who seemed intent on ruining things – and my favourite character, Josie who will take you on such an emotional, heart wrenching journey this time around.

I love how the whole book written in two-hour time frames, a fantastic pace as so much happens throughout the course of the book it’s so easy to be immersed in the action. Such a credit to Shari’s writing style, I couldn’t put it down.

I think this final installment is a great ending, very fitting for the characters and finishes their stories off well. There are no real loose ends or parts I would’ve liked to see done differently, The Last Day of Winter is a fantastic read which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

About the Author:

Shari Low is the No1 best-selling author of over 20 novels, including With Or Without You, Another Day In Winter, One Day In December, A Life Without You, This Is Me and The Story Of Our Life. And because she likes to over-share toe-curling moments and hapless disasters, she is also the shameless mother behind a collection of parenthood memories called Because Mummy Said So. Once upon a time she met a guy, got engaged after a week, and twenty-something years later she lives near Glasgow with her husband, a labradoodle, and two teenagers who think she's fairly embarrassing except when they need a lift.

#BLOGTOUR - The Gift of Happiness by Holly Martin

Available Here

Christmas has arrived in the little village of Happiness, promising snowflakes, hot chocolate and plenty of seasonal romance. So snuggle up and fall in love with the gorgeously cosy new story from the bestselling author of Christmas at Lilac Cottage…

My Review:

One of the things that makes me really happy is snuggling up with a good book by one of my favourite authors. Holly Martin has given us wonderful stories and so many lovable settings and characters that  I was beside myself to be returning to the village of Happiness.

I loved discovering the fantastic community in Holly’s previous book – The Little Village of Happiness – and couldn’t wait to catch up with some of the characters I’d grown to love previously as well as getting the chance to discover more about Ruby.

We had already met Ruby, as she is Willows best friend who came to visit but now, she is opening her own Christmas decoration shop and moving to Happiness herself. I love the sense of community that has been created in Happiness, I just wish I could live there– everyone sounds kind, caring and they always get up to so much fun. I also love the gossip that builds about Ruby and Jacob it isn’t malicious (mostly) but their own way people are just trying to be encouraging and supportive, wanting the best for them both.

Ruby and Jacob has a brief ‘liaison’ in the previous book and its quite easy to see the chemistry and attraction is still there on both sides, but we discover why Ruby doesn’t ever want to commit and it appears pretty unlikely this partnership would ever be anything ‘proper.’. It’s an unexpected and painful experience that leaves Ruby unwilling to be with Jacob and I can fully understand her reluctance to ever bond deeply with Jacob. They do have an incredible spark, which means they develop a good bond, a solid friendship and although both have stronger desires, Jacob realises he must be patient if he ever stands a chance of having anything more.

This is full of festive frolics, but it isn’t your typical feel-good, romantic festive delight; it contains some deep and sensitive topics that I felt were addressed carefully and portrayed very realistically. I resonated with the character of Ruby, she is one I took to my heart immediately and although I adore Willow, Ruby will continue to be very special. I hope we will return to Happiness in the future.
Holly Martin has given us an amazing escape yet again, so enjoy, relax and treat yourself to this wonderful read.

Thank you to the author for a copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Author Q&A with Olivia Beirne -'The Accidental Love Letter'

What would you do if you received a love letter that wasn't meant for you?

Bea used to feel confident, outgoing and fun, but she's not sure where that person went.

Over the last few months, she's found herself becoming reclusive and withdrawn. And despite living with her two best friends, she's never felt lonelier.

To make things worse, she's become so dependent on her daily routine, she's started to slip out of everyone else's.

But when a mysterious battered envelope covered in stars lands on her doormat, Bea wonders if she could find the courage to open it.
It isn't addressed to her, but it could be... if you squinted...

Thank you to Olivia for taking the time to answer the following questions for The Comfy Chair blog...

1.
What was your favourite childhood book/author?

I had so many, but I loved everything by Roald Dahl. I especially loved Enid Blyton, and was obsessed with the idea of going to boarding school, which was only heightened when Harry Potter arrived in my early teens. I loved any books about magic, and the Saturday morning treat in my house was to go to the library and choose a new book (after my Mum had spent a far more stressful morning trying to find the pile of books me and my siblings had left around the house, to return to the library).
2.
What inspired you to start writing and how long has it taken you to get to this point?

I know every writer says this, but I really have written all my life. When I was little I told my younger brother stories, and made my sister watch me act out plays with my dolls (and tell her off when she didn’t clap at the right time. Lucky her ey?) I toyed with the idea of being a writer as a teenager, but had absolutely no idea how to do it, so skipped off to University to study Drama instead. In reality, I spent three years making up plays with my friends and writing scripts, and wrote a play as my final assignment. Something in me was addicted to creating stories.
I started writing my first novel the day after I handed in my dissertation. It took me four years and three books to get signed by my Agent (the third book being my debut novel, The List That Changed My Life). I must have been rejected about one hundred times over the year, but something in me knew I had to keep going. I felt like it was the only thing I could do!

3.
Describe your writing space - neat and ordered or creative chaos?
Absolute creative chaos! One of the reasons I find starting a book so hard is because, to begin with, everything is so neat. The notebooks are empty, and there are no charts around my desk. I am a planner, and I have to be able to visualise my book before I start writing. I write my books on my laptop, but all of the planning has to be done by hand. My brain won’t work any other way.

4.    What is the easiest and hardest part of the writing process?
Hmmm. I guess the easiest part is when I get to write a scene I’ve had planned for months, whether that be a comic or serious, I get such satisfaction writing them. I can feel the fire ignite in my stomach. The hardest part is getting there, at the beginning I imagine these huge scenes… but know that they won’t sit until 40,000 words in. I write chronologically, so even if that scene is bursting out of my fingers, I know I need to write that 40k first. That can be very hard.
5.
Which other authors are you influenced by?

That is quite a hard question, as I read such a variety of books and I take something away from every book I read which seeps into my own writing process. For example, I’ve just finished My Sister The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite which was absolutely brilliant, and had an incredible sense
of pace which is firmly sat in my mind as I plan my next novel.

6.    What does literary success look like to you?
Someone enjoying my book. Obviously seeing my books in bookshops is
super exciting, but any comments from somebody who has read my book
and enjoyed them means the world to me. To me, that’s me doing my job well. It also blows my mind.
7.    How do you select the names of your characters?
With great, great difficulty. I am terrible at choosing names. Sometimes I choose names I adore (for example, there is a character in The Accidental Love Letter called Joy, which is one of my favourite names), and sometimes I pinch names from TV programmes and people I meet

8.
Do you hide any secret ‘messages’ in your book that only a few people will understand?

Yes! There is a moment between Gus and Sylvia which is a nod to my Grandparents and how they met. I’m not sure they’ll even notice, but it made me smile!

9.
What three words describe your book?

Trust. Love. Unity.

10.
If it was to be made into a film/TV programme, what actors would play which role?

Maggie Smith would make a mean Sylvia!

11.  What do you hope your readers take away from this book?

That they’re not alone, and chances are the people around you who seem to have it all together are feeling the same way as you. It’s okay to ask for help. Most importantly, it’s okay to make repeated jokes about beavers (that’s mainly for my parents/grandparents before they disown me at the sheer amount of beaver jokes crammed in this book).

Lastly, Jenn and The Comfy Chair likes to enjoy a good read snuggled up with a cup of tea and piece of cake... what cake or sweet treat would you suggest accompany your book?
Jenn that’s exactly how I’d like my books to be enjoyed! I love cake, and I think I’d say a fat slice of victoria sponge. Or carrot cake. Or chocolate. Or all three with a small bit of battenburg?

My Review:

What an enchanting, captivating story! I loved every moment of this gorgeous, romantic and funny read from Katie Ginger. This is definitely one book that will fill you with festive cheer.

Katie has written a story to warm the coldest heart with well-developed characters that you will love. Esme and Joe have gone through so much that even though they get on instantly, they’ve both endured enough misery to put them off any further romantic endeavours; but sometimes feelings can not and should not be ignored.

Esme is such a nice character; I really was on her side from the off. She deserved a better go at things in London but I am so glad we saw her go back to Sandchester and her wonderful, quirky family. I LOVE her Mum and Dad – they add some very funny moments, as do her wonderful friends. I want friends like hers – always having her back no matter what.

This is beautifully written and gives us humour, love, romance, festive fun and a heart-warming tale of moving forwards and working hard to get the happy ending you deserve.  I do love the inclusion of her blog, vlog adventures etc as it felt up to date
.

Love a happy ending? Then I cannot recommend this delightful read enough.

My Review:

A beautiful, warm and cosy read that drew me in immediately. I couldn’t put in down. There is stunning, descriptive settings and wonderful characters who will keep you amused and take you on an emotional journey. Although a festive read it is much more and a book that would be well received at any time of year.

Our main character Tia is one that you see develop throughout, I can empathise with her situation and I liked her attitude and approach to life when settled in Holly Cove. I think she is a character any reader would fully support and want the best for – it’s obvious that she and Nic are destined to help each other through their different, but equally as troublesome personal and emotional issues and I thought it interesting how their relationship developed at a steady pace, with ups and downs and plenty of tension that kept me hooked. I genuinely wasn’t sure if this was a relationship that would ever go the distance.

I loved the array of other characters, each adding something extra to the book. Some you couldn’t stand and were wary of immediately but then some I adored like Max – I thought he added something special. I really did not figure out some of the revelations towards the end either.

A very addictive book that looks at a whole host of issues; grief, loss, families and relationships and all the varying challenges that someone can have to face. Although it does deal with some serious and emotional things, it is heart-warming and definitely one to cosy up with.

BLOGTOUR: The Christmas Calendar Girls - Samantha Tonge

About the book

This Christmas fall in love with the town of Chesterwood...
Christmas is meant to be a time of giving, so with Chesterwood food bank under risk of closure Fern knows just what to do to save it. She's going to get the town to create a living advent calendar.
Fern, and her best friends, call for help from the local community to bring this calendar to life. When Kit, the new man in town, offers his assistance Fern's heart can't help but skip a beat (or two).
As they grow ever closer, Fern must admit that Kit's breaking down the barriers she built after the death of her husband. But his past is holding him back and Fern doesn't know how to reach him. No matter how hard she tries.
In this town, Kit's not the only one with secrets. Domestic goddess Cara is behaving oddly, burning meals in the oven and clothes whilst ironing, and Davina's perfect children are causing trouble at school leaving her son, Jasper, desperately unhappy.
Can the Christmas Calendar Girls find a way to bring the community together in time to save the food bank, while still supporting their families and each other? Can Fern find love again with Kit?
This is a story about kindness and letting go of the past. It's about looking out for your neighbours and about making every day feel like Christmas.

My Review:

This is one of those wonderfully festive books that you can really imagine being played out as a gorgeously cosy Christmas film.

More than just a typical feel good book though, there is a level of depth with the readers eyes being opened to a problem that may well be reflective of their own community. I think this book serves a purpose in highlighting the importance of food banks and the jeopardy they often find themselves facing.

What a beautiful idea, a unique take on typical fundraising – bringing to life the advent calendar within the community.  The three main characters, friends, work hard to pull off this incredible feat all in the hope of raising money for their local foodbank, so it can pay the rent needed to keep it going. As well as this each character is facing their own personal issues -whether that’s matters of the heart, possible illness and overzealous Mother in Laws.

Samantha Tonge has written a brilliant story with friendship and community at its heart and a cast of characters that will welcome you in and make you feel like you belong.  There are many ups, there are a great deal of lows; it has drama and misunderstanding, love and grief. You will go through a wide range of emotions throughout the festive journey our ladies undertake.

A wonderfully heart-warming, life affirming tale. I enjoyed every moment and highly recommend.
