My Review:

Honestly, I could rave about Julie Caplin all day long, an absolute “ go to” author for me (as both Julie Caplin and Jules Wake) – I look forward to the next book from the moment I finish one. No pressure to write any faster at all 😊

A little place in Prague whisked us off to yet another brilliant location; these ‘Romantic Escapes’ books have allowed to travel all over the world from the comfort of your own armchair, I adore each of them. This isn’t a series where you need to have read previous books at all, each work as standalones but I cannot stress enough how great they all are and that you should read them. If you have read previous books you will spot little cameos from characters we’ve met before.

Supposed strangers, Anna and Leo, are thrown together in a flat share whilst competing in a beer brewing competition, each keen to learn and develop techniques for producing their own beer. This may be a strange set up for some but not for people that already know each other and have a significant history.

I adore their story; it’s testament to people wanting to change and better themselves, learning from past mistakes and showing that time can allow people to really change. Of course this story has ups and downs, neither character is perfect but they work well together; the chemistry is incredible.

It’s a gorgeously cosy read, perfect for the cooler days and dark evenings. As always there is a wonderful cast of characters that are entertaining and some that are infuriating as well as mouthwatering descriptions of delicious local food dishes and drinks. A thoroughly gorgeous read.

Having visited Prague very briefly many years ago, this book was a lovely way to reminisce about that trip although I now realise I barely touched the surface of what Prague has to offer! What is very clear from reading A Little Place in Prague is Julie Caplin’s love for the city, she is shining such a spotlight on to the culture, architecture, foods etc that I wouldn’t be surprised if most readers would love to have their very own escape to Prague.

Another fantastic read – already looking forward to the next!

My Review:

A gorgeous return to St Aidan for Jane Linfoot fans, with familiar faces and places but a brand new story centred around Florence May, the younger sister of Sophie. You don’t have to have read any of the previous St Aidan based books, it’s a stand alone book, but I would always recommend reading Jane Linfoot’s back catalogue as they are gorgeous reads.

Floss is returning home after a difficult time in London. Needing a change yet needing to be somewhere familiar, she is determined to forge a way forward in this new life one step at a time. Finding the perfect, most idyllic place to live, on the beach, and surrounded by her amazing family and friends (it sounds like heaven) Floss starts to find some happiness again, slowly and surely kick starting her new chapter. That is until her peace and tranquillity are threatened, and a familiar face from her past changes her plans in many ways.

Discovering her new abode comes with a catch, Floss randomly finds her home becoming the place to be for many people. Floss turns her hand to many things, but her skillset is making people feel comfortable and well-taken care of. Her concoction of random desserts are a bit (and will make your mouth water!) and she soon is in demand – in more ways than one.

Keen not to let people down but wanting to stick to her plan of not letting people get close, when her latest neighbour seems intent on being part of her life, Floss struggles to keep him at arm’s length.

I adore Floss, especially having been through so much already, she is hardworking, kind and caring, she has great relationships with people, if not always with her sister and Mother – but essentially, they do all love each other. She’s taken life by the hands and is rolling with whatever comes her way, embracing second chances even if scary and not part of her intended plan.

Full of teasingly yummy sounding goodies, this is another brilliant book by Jane and a highly recommended summer read. It's a gorgeously romantic book, with themes of friendship, community and embracing second chances.

My Review:

Love You from A-Z is a cosy read that is a hug in book form. I didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised, it had loveable (and not so loveable) characters of human and furry variety – Jenna is our leading lady and is very organised and safe; she doesn’t want a life of risk but her partner seems to be the complete opposite and gets himself (and her) into risky, silly situations that she has absolutely nothing to do with but will always have to deal with the consequences. With each disaster or risk Jenna starts to realise they aren’t on the same page after all.

Soon Jenna finds herself in a whole different situation as well as living arrangement, but the positive in this is that she gets to meet Henry. He is confident, adventurous (in a good way) and could provide a more stable future but she really doesn’t know if he is just for fun right now or if it could work out in the long term.

Henry provides romance, safety and allows her to support her sister who’s guinea pig rescue is at risk. He learns the adjustments Jenna needs and brings her such happy times; it all seems too good to be true.

Jenna and her sister soon learn that appearances can be deceptive, but is there more to it than they think?

It is really refreshing to read a story with a main character with a disability, who needs an element of organisation and pre-planning in their lives yet still would like to experience things able bodied people do. Jenna is a good character and she wants it all, safety, security, romance and even adventure – she doesn’t want her disability to define her. The stories focus isn’t on her disability but is cleverly woven into it.

A lovely read with interesting characters and funny moments that will make you see guinea pigs in a new light.

My Review:

A truly lovely, sweet and romantic story with dual timelines – that of Molly finding true, lasting love and Izzie her granddaughter, discovering secrets and healing her own personal wounds.

Upon her beloved grandmothers death, Izzie returns to her bungalow with the intention to clear it out, redecorate and sell up. Discovering an old diary reveals a heart-breaking story that had long been buried; all whilst Izzie is coming to terms with her own loss she must also face up to the future. She runs into long lost love, Justin and is still hurt by what did or did not happen in the past.

As much as I enjoyed Izzie’s story and her reconnecting with Justin, and finding herself again; I was completely swept up in Molly’s story. I could have just read a whole book on her and the Blackshaw twins.. I was hooked.

This book is very well written, so engaging, I liked the characters and didn’t feel anything was overly complicated or distracting. It’s a heartwarming story full of love, loss and truth.

A gorgeous, relaxing read. Highly recommended.

Lancashire born, I moved to Bedfordshire in the late seventies, married and started a family. I’m a past Hon Sec of the Romantic Novelists’ Association, have been a member since 1993 when I joined their New Writers’ Scheme as a probationer. That came about after winning a week’s historical writing course on the strength of the first chapter of my third Poldark-era romance. The tutor on the last day loved the story and handed me details of the Romantic Novelists’ Association – she said I absolutely must join as they would be able to help me towards publication.

My Review:

I am a huge fan of the author and especially this book series. It is the sixth book in the Love Heart Lane Series although written so it can be a standalone as they all are. I would recommend reading the others, just because they are such great stories, but that isn’t necessary to follow the storyline or get to know these main characters (I did love hearing a little about one’s we’ve already heard from though!)

Molly is the successful, confident, and popular local vet. She has almost everything she wants in life but feels there may be one thing missing and it might be time to do something about it. She’s known locally as the dog whisperer and wants to put these talents to use by setting up dog behaviour classes in Primrose Park. As she is always determined to be the best at whatever she does, she goes on a course at a local hotel. There she literally bumps into the man of her dreams and after one amazing night they part ways and Molly goes back to work on her business.

When Molly bumps into this mystery man again her world changes in the most unexpected ways, the problem? The man isn’t exactly how she remembers him, in fact she barely recognises him. Getting the community together to help her cause Molly isn’t afraid of standing up for herself or others, but does she really want to do everything alone or is she hoping to get him involved.

I really liked Molly, she’s not shy and not one for mixing her words. She’s capable and puts other peoples’ feelings before her own, to her detriment sometimes. She’s not necessarily good at following advice though as she is headstrong and determined once she gets an idea in her head. I was hoping she would be the one to help poor Dixie – whose own daughter was truly awful beyond words- they had a lovely relationship.

Cam is a difficult leading man, I wanted to really love him, but I have to admit at first I didn’t really warm to him, especially with how badly he acted toward Molly. I was 100% on her side and felt that she deserved better but as his story came to light, I saw the type of person he could be and I changed my mind.  They did have a great chemistry and testament to Christie Barlow’s writing, Cam won me over by the end.

A quick shout out for Darling. I absolutely loved this crazy dog although I’d be wearing my wellies around him. Darling added some funny moments but turned into quite the hero too!

Always great to be back in this community setting, I feel like I could visit and know all the locals and each book uncovers more. Christie has created a wonderful, caring community that I love returning to time and time again.

The writing flows nicely and the story moves a long at a great pace. I found this visit to be dramatic and yet still able to make me laugh and smile whilst reading. It only took me a few hours to sit and read this in one glorious sitting, I can’t recommend highly enough – a wonderful bit of escapism. Jump into Primrose Park if you want a nice summer read.

Christie Barlow goes from strength to strength; I always look forward to her next read. Primrose Park is brilliant, and I highly recommend.

My Review:

I’m a really big fan of Christie’s and the Love Heart Lane series is one of my favourites. I like how Christie creates such wonderful settings and relatable and likeable characters – The Heartcross community is like a familiar group of friends now and I’m fully invested in so many of their lives. It’s always a pleasure reading the next book and catching up with old favourites as well as new characters.

The Lake House is our fifth book in this series, although each can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading all in this series.

Ella is our leading character this book and she finds herself in Heartcross after some serious trouble. She is at rock bottom because of other people’s secrets and deception, now she needs to start again, if she can. What a lovely character, I felt so sorry (and angry) for her, hoping that whatever happened it could all come good with a fresh start.

Roman instantly gained my interest and affection but what is he being so secretive about. Can Ella take any more lies and secrets? Can she trust him or not, it’s hard for her to tell after all she has been through. For Roman, he wants to do the best for everyone even if that means running into trouble himself.  

The star of the show is most definitely Dolores. What a great character – she jumps off the page and into your heart. She deserves the adulation she receives.

I adored this story and the Lake House just sounds like the most phenomenal place – I’d go in a heartbeat if I could.

It’s the brilliant sense of community that you get with this book, yet again, that makes it so good. Christie doesn’t shy away from including issues and problems whilst creating a cosy and heart-warming read. You feel uplifted and happy for the characters, like they are friends. I couldn’t put it down, perfect cosy up and enjoy an afternoon type read.

The Saturday Morning Park Run - Jules Wake

This is the story of two women.

One old, one young.

My Review:

No matter under which guise she is writing as, Jules (or Julie) is one of my absolute top ‘read-their-book-above-all-others-ASAP’ authors. I will happily toss all other books aside to read the latest one from her.  Favouritism? You bet but when the books make you as happy and a million miles away from real life problems as these do me then you’d be the same.

Following Jules on social media I know how she has been involved in park runs, all credit to anyone who does them because I couldn’t but I love the idea of them and the whole social/spirit of them. Jules’ love of park run shines through this whole book. The positive light shed upon the finer details, the inner workings of getting these events put together really does wonders and almost made me want to head out in trainers… It is a wonderful side to this special story that really is about making people appreciate their lives, skills, and opportunities in a different way.

With some wonderful characters that will cement a place firmly in your hearts, The Saturday Morning Park Run would not be the same without the treasure that is Hilda. Everyone will rave about her but its deserved, she is a powerhouse and the one that ties everything so nicely together. I wish I had a Hilda in my life... maybe I should hang around a park bench a little more often!

I love Claire and Ash. Our lead characters: we meet them at a place in their lives where both seem on top. They are both killing it career wise, they have the flirty, hot chemistry and both know what they want from life. Typically, everything changes, both end up in unexpected positions and through some helpful Hilda intervention they start to realise their previous lifestyle may not be all their hearts desired.

Claire gets to look after her nieces Poppy and Ava, whilst providing some fun moments, their relationship develops and becomes so special that, in parts, it almost had me in tears.

With overriding ideas that family can be made up from those you chose to have in your life; this heart-warming read will leave you feeling happy, emotional, and potentially ready for a run.

I always champion Jules’ books, they are brilliant and I recommend them as I genuinely love each one. I wouldn’t pick a favourite but this is up there.

A gorgeous, engaging, charm of a read.
