Living The Dream at Puddleduck Farm - Della Galton

Life would be idyllic if everyone else was on the same page…

Puddleduck Vets Practice is busier than ever.
Phoebe Dashwood is juggling the usual crazy animal antics of her quirky clients, whilst organising the wedding of her bridezilla grandmother and thankfully dating her perfect man.

Phoebe loves every minute of being a New Forest vet, even if she hardly has time to catch her breath. If only she could find some quality time for her and the man of her dreams, life would be perfect.

When an ex’s heartbreak stirs up some emotions from the past, Phoebe realises she must deal with some unfinished business. It would seem a miracle is needed to pull off a happy ending for everyone – but is it within Phoebe's power to work miracles?

My Review:
The third book of this series, the grand finale some my say. I’d recommend reading the previous books before this one as it ties up loose ends and clears up situations from the previous book.

I must admit I wasn’t keen on the romantic developments in the last book, I didn’t really see the connection other than being best friends. It was obvious Sam adored Phoebe, but she wasn’t overly sure, and it took some time. Personally, I thought she was settling for someone she knew loved her rather than actually feeling it herself. I’m not actually fully convinced even after this book, but I do like all the characters  and it’s nice to read stories that have positive endings.

We catch up with everyone throughout the book and see how their story plays out. We even see Rufus going through some emotional ups and downs and discovering support in the most unexpected place, he finally finds what he needs and it definitely comes with a bigger surprise than any of us expected.

I enjoy Dellas storytelling, it is well paced and keeps you entertained from start to finish. I have always enjoyed the inclusion of animals and their antics, and this time was no different.

A lovely way to end the series!

Mistletoe at Moonstone Lake - Holly Martin

Escape to the breathtaking Cornish Coast this winter, where the ocean sparkles in the moonlight and romance crackles like an open fire. This gorgeous new love story by Holly Martin, bestselling author of Sunlight Over Crystal Sands, is the perfect treat to warm your heart this Christmas.

Artist Zoey Flynn hadn’t planned to spend her favourite holiday on the shores of Jewel Island, but when her fiancĂ© breaks off their engagement before their Christmas Eve wedding, this Cornish paradise is just the distraction she needs.

With a cosy cottage to call home for a month and a stall at the island’s famous Christmas market to sell her paintings, Zoey quickly puts her heartbreak behind her. Love is the last thing on her mind. That is until the handsome Kit Lewis crosses her path…

Their connection is instant, but Zoey has a secret. And the deeper she and Kit fall for one another, the harder it is to hide. Kit knows Zoey is holding something back and if she won’t tell him the truth she could lose him forever.

Is keeping a promise from the past worth sacrificing a future with the man she loves? Or might Kit be the one person she can trust?

Love, laughter and long-hidden secrets are waiting for you on stunning Jewel Island. For fans of Jill Mansell, Sarah Morgan and Sue Moorcroft, this is the perfect tale to curl up with this Christmas.

My Review:

Holly Martin is one of my favourites all through the year but there is something extra lovely about her festive reads. Mistletoe at Moonstone Lake gave me all the wonderful, Christmas warm and fuzzies so get cosy and enjoy.

I’d happily live on Jewel Island at the best of times, but this Christmas Market sounds right up my street. I instantly imagined the sounds, smells and sights, I could picture the people milling around each seller, enjoying Kit’s tasty delights, and grabbing those festive gifts. Jewel Island events always sound amazing, and this is no exception.

Main characters – Zoey and Kit are instant favourites for me. I was a bit dubious about Zoey at first, she was keeping a secret and I hoped it wouldn’t be something terrible or too heart breaking, although you can start to connect the dots. I think this story emphasises how small a world we live it too – I was so surprised by the connection between the two.

There is instant chemistry between Kit and Zoey, and I loved how it developed. With all romances there are obstacles and bumps in the road but you are keen to see that they could overcome them.

This is a series I will never tire of reading about, you don’t have to have read the previous books but I do recommend them as they are great. Fans of the previous books set here will be happy that old favourites make cameos throughout.

I cannot recommend enough, treat yourself to some festive cheer!

Ice Creams at Emerald Cove - Holly Martin

Escape to the Cornish coast this spring with a trip to the beautiful Emerald Cove, where the sea sparkles in the sunshine, the sand glitters like gold, and true love is in the air. From the bestselling author of Sunrise over Sapphire Bay comes this gorgeously romantic and uplifting tale.

Skye Philips and Jesse Hamilton have a complicated relationship. They’ve been neighbours, best friends and even briefly married. But ever since Skye returned to the beautiful shores of Jewel Island to help her sisters Aria and Clover run their family hotel, she doesn’t know where she stands with Jesse.

When they’re together the chemistry between them sizzles, but with Jesse living in Canada and Skye on the Cornish island she calls home, they’ve kept things casual. Till now…

Jesse is coming to Jewel Island for the annual Pudding Parade and Skye knows this is her chance to tell him how she really feels. But putting her heart on the line isn’t easy when it’s been broken in the past. Will Jesse return her love? Or will she lose him for good?

Everything she's ever wanted can be hers if she's willing to take the chance, but is Skye brave enough to risk her heart once again?'

Set sail to the Cornish coast where sunshine, laughter and romance awaits. This stunning love story is guaranteed to steal your heart this summer; it’s the perfect read for fans of Sarah Morgan, Veronica Henry and Jill Mansell.

My Review:

I am a big fan of Holly Martin and this book is another smash! An absolute pleasure to be back with sisters Skye, Aria and Clover. You may have read the previous two books about these ladies so will enjoy the catch up of familiar faces but please be assured you can read this as a standalone. Enough detail is included to bring you up to speed but not too much for those that have read to feel like it’s repetitive.
I couldn’t read this one fast enough, I always dive straight into any of Holly’s books without any waiting.

Hooked from the start, I didn’t want to put it down – especially this time with so many delicious sounding goodies making my mouth water.
Be transported to Emerald Cove; there is a nice gentle pace, but it is full of emotion and heart. You get ample enough drama met with heart warming and tender times. You will be rooting for the best for everyone. It’s a brilliant community feeling, I love catching up with Island life and wish I could go there myself.
Great characters, well written storylines, and an inviting setting, you don’t need anything more when you want to cosy up with a fantastic read.

I hope we get to visit the Island again soon…

Q&A with Rosie Green

Welcome to The Comfy Chair Blog.... Rosie Green.

Favourite childhood book/author?
I adored Enid Blyton as a child and devoured everything she wrote, but I think the most well-worn, dog-eared copy was probably Five on a Treasure Island.

What inspired you to start writing and how long has it taken you to get to this point? From the age of about nine, I wanted to write a book and get it published. I tried a few times over the years, but didn’t get serious about it until I reached a certain milestone birthday. It took me five years to write a book good enough to land an agent, and then another year or so after that to find a publisher willing to take a chance on me. Getting ‘the call’ from Helen at Avon on that August day in 2014 was one of the most exciting things that’s ever happened to me.

Describe your writing space.
I used to have an actual study to write in, but my lovely teenage son has now commandeered it for a music studio! I don’t mind because he’s got a real talent for music, but I’m not sure my back likes me much for spending a lot of time sitting on my bed to write. The space itself is definitely more ‘organised chaos’ than neat and ordered.

Easiest and hardest part of the writing process?
I really look forward to writing the last few chapters. All the hard work of establishing setting and character, and plot development, is behind me and the ending practically writes itself. Conversely, the middle of a book can be the hardest to write – I’m filled with enthusiasm for my plot and characters at the start, but by about 20,000 words, I can start to feel a bit bogged down. The ending is still so far in the distance and it can sometimes seem an impossible task to actually get there.

Which other authors are you influenced by?
Marian Keyes. Sophie Kinsella. Ian Rankin. P D James.

How do you select the names of your characters?
It’s just instinct, I suppose. I guess I choose names I really like for my nicest people! There’s also a practical element, though – you don’t want to confuse readers by having two characters with similar names. In my current release, Log Fires & Toffee Apple Cake, the main character is called Carrie, and originally, I also had a ‘Caroline’ in the book, until my editor pointed out that they were probably a bit too similar. So then she became ‘Maggie’.

Do you hide any secret messages in your books?
I don’t. But funnily enough, I have a friend who sometimes reads things into a book I’ve written that I swear aren’t actually there. (Maybe she’s right, though, and it’s emerging from my subconscious!)

What do you hope your readers take away from your book?
My aim has always been to entertain and provide an escape from everyday life, but I also hope my main characters are inspiring – they’re ordinary women who are facing big challenges but they tackle them with courage and make it out the other side, a little wiser for their experience.

Sweet treat?
My main character in A Brambleberry Manor Christmas runs her own catering company, so I’ve had lots of fun designing scrumptious menus – including the very delicious white chocolate and cherry roulade cake. (I’ve included the recipe in the book!)

My latest book - A Brambleberry Manor Christmas, out on 23rd December – is packed with lots of festive delights.

Jenny Wilkes is dreading Christmas after the tragic events of the previous festive season. The one bright spot is that her catering company seems to be doing well – she’s been asked to cook for a house party at the wonderful Brambleberry Manor, her friend Fen’s family home. Meeting the lovely Will, one of the guests, gives Jenny hope for the future, and the Little Duck Pond CafĂ© girls are great at raising her flagging spirits – but there’s nothing like a bitter and stroppy step-daughter to put a spanner in the works! Can Jenny find her happy-ever-after against all the odds?

The Winter Garden - Heidi Swain ** GIVEAWAY **

Fancy winning a signed copy of The Winter Garden from Heidi Swain? Read on...

***The sparkling new Christmas novel from the Sunday Times bestselling author Heidi Swain!***

Freya Fuller is estranged from her parents and has been following her childhood dream of becoming a gardener ever since. When an opportunity to design a winter garden opens up at a Victorian property in Nightingale Square, Freya jumps at the chance to make a fresh start. But while the majority of the residents are welcoming, local artist Finn seems determined to shut her out, and when Freya's family make a surprise appearance, it seems that her new life is about to come crashing down . . .

The Winter Garden  is the perfect read this Christmas, promising snowfall, warm fires and breath-taking seasonal romance. Perfect for fans of Carole Matthews, Cathy Bramley and Sarah Morgan.

My Review:
Heidi’s writing is like a comfort blanket and the stories she creates are heart-warming, soul soothing and a perfect tonic to what’s been the most unsettling of times.

Heidi Swain books always shoot straight to the top of my TBR. I will ditch any other just to read them as I know I will adore them from start to finish. I’ve been looking forward to ‘The Winter Garden’ so didn’t hesitate to start and I was hooked from the off.
A return to Nightingale Square – YEY – we are familiar with this setting thanks to Heidi’s previous books, Sunshine and Sweet Peas in Nightingale Square and Poppy’s Recipe for Life but don’t worry The Winter Garden is a standalone, you don’t need to have read the others but for those of us who have we will be greeted with a few familiar faces.
Freya finds herself leaving a place she’s loved and treasured for years after it is inherited by heartless and awful sounding Jackson; she’s heading to Prospect Place and is keen to start work on The Winter Garden. Cue Freya finding herself in Nightingale Square and finally finding her home.
The locals all make Freya feel welcomed and she is soon in the thick of community activities. Freya is a lovely character, hard working, self-assured and confident in many ways. Her first meeting with Norse god like sculptor, Finn, leaves a lot to be desired and its clear that these two characters don’t see eye to eye which could become awkward having to work in such proximity.
The story progresses and we see how settled Freya becomes, how happy she realises she is and how well she fits into this community. I love catching up with the old favourites so I will look forward to a return to the square and a little catch up with her.
Although this book isn’t solely Christmas themed, there is the perfect amount of festive cheer to make you feel all cosy and ready to celebrate the season. A winter delight I’d say, it gives you all the right feels, with gorgeous characters and a heart-warming tale.

My Review:

It’s book twelve of this fantastic series from the lovely Rosie Green, I can’t believe it. I adore this series – I say it every time and I mean it wholeheartedly. Each time I finish one book I am already eagerly awaiting the next.

The characters are now firm favourites, each brings something different; their quirks and personalities are contrasting but overall, that is what makes it all work so well.

This book focuses on Madison, who has probably caused more tension and ill feeling than most. She can be very misunderstood and when she first appeared, I didn’t think she would ever gel well with the rest of the group. Time has served her well and she is a little less selfish these days… a teeny weeny bit.

It has been nice to get to know her better, I think it was long overdue. We saw her loved up and know that it kind of fallen apart. This story picks up on Madison trying to discover herself a little more.

The discoveries she makes are, quite frankly, life changing and she handles them as well as any other person might. I thought it was quite emotional in places and I felt for her, even if she did always seem to go feet first into every situation.

There are some funny moments, as always in these books, especially where Madison mixes up dog snorkelling with bog snorkelling.

I think by the end of the book Madison has changed a little, she’s found the love and approval she needed and believes in herself a little more. Relationships have been repaired in all ways and its very heart warming.

A gorgeous return to our favourite little community. Despite this being book 12, you can read each as standalones, with enough to fill you in on previous moments so you don’t feel confused. Rosie has a wonderful, engaging and fun writing style, the books flow beautifully and you feel at the heart of the community.

Roll on Book 13, I cannot wait!

Author Bio:

Rosie has been scribbling stories ever since she was little.

Back then, they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by 'the baddies'.

Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all - unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Her series of novellas is centred around life in a village cafe. The latest, ‘Lucy’s Great Escape', is out now.

Rosie will be revisiting the Little Duck Pond Café with a beautiful story of love and friendship at Christmas time, entitled A Kiss in the Snow, out in October 2020.

Hopeful Hearts at Glendale Hall - Victoria Walters

What happens when love takes you to unexpected places?

Heather Douglas appears to have it all. But living on a farm in the Scottish Highlands with her partner, Rory Fraser, all while bringing up their adorable toddler, Harry, isn’t easy. As a former librarian, Heather is worried that she’ll never fully fit into life on Fraser Farm. And after the death of her beloved mum five years ago, Heather feels lost, as well as guilty for holding back accepting Rory’s marriage proposal because she can’t imagine her wedding without her mother.

So when ex-boyfriend, Stewart, appears in the village of Glendale, it’s a shock to the system. The man who broke her heart years ago now has big plans for the neighbouring farm and wants Heather to be part of the development. Knowing that she’s living a very different life to the one they had planned at university leaves Heather wondering if she has made the right choices since she and Stewart broke up. Especially when things start to go very wrong on the farm ...

This Christmas, Heather will need to face her fears and let go of the past or risk losing everything. She will need love, faith, and a whole lot of hope!

Return to the beautiful Highlands village of Glendale with the latest book in the bestselling Glendale series – the perfect cosy, uplifting, romantic read for fans of Heidi Swain, Milly Johnson and Holly Martin.

My Review:

It’s always a pleasure to read the next in a series you have grown to love. Here we are with book 3 in this charming series by Victoria Walters, and Glendale is a community that I feel right at home in. This visit focuses on the story of Heather, who we have come across in the books. If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading them, don’t worry it can read as a standalone, but you’d enjoy catching up on the action from the first two so I highly recommend.

Heather, Rory and their gorgeous son are quite the adorable family unit. Heather is growing used to life as a farmers ‘wife’ and living on the farm, mucking in and helping out more and more. She is a full-on worrier, and it often weighs heavy on her; thinking things will fail, or that the worst will always happen.

I do love Heathers character but I often found myself so frustrated with her, I wanted to just reach out and tell her to open up, communicate with those she loved more and it would help no end. She is a great character though and you can’t help but love her for finding her inner strength and showing those around she is indeed tough enough and has got what it takes.

There is drama, suspense, an absolute stinker of a bad guy who could do with being taught a thing or two. I was captivated by the ups and downs of Heathers story, life certainly isn’t dull and especially not on this farm.

As with any book series, it was great to revisit old characters and see how they were getting on, it does feel like seeing old friends.

Such a charming feel to these stories, and this book is perfect for cosying up and enjoying. I read in a couple of sittings as was so involved in the story. It is such a feel good story, a lot of drama to keep you on the edge of your seat! I admit I had moments where I thought Heather was going to do something I wouldn’t be able to forgive her for.

Showing that you can push yourself and step outside of your comfort zone to find what you truly want and what can make you happy can be the last thing you think it would be. This book is a well written and heartful story that I would recommend for this upcoming season.

Clover Cottage - Christie Barlow

A page-turning new cosy novel in the bestselling Love Heart Lane series – perfect for fans of Katie Fforde, Phillipa Ashley and Milly Johnson!

Love Heart Lane – where friends are there for you no matter what.

When Vet Rory Scott inherits ramshackle Clover Cottage in the quaint village of Heartcross, Allie MacDonald just knows this is their happy ever after. A place to call home with the man she loves – it’s her dream come true!

Until Rory drops a bombshell. He loves Allie but he has dreams of his own to follow – to live and work in Africa. Clover Cottage will have to wait just a little longer…

Allie can’t imagine life without Rory, but she loves him too much to hold him back. And as he embarks on his adventure, Allie begins to rethink her own plans. She loves Rory and knows she wants him in her life, but maybe she can follow her own dreams too?

And always there, nestled in the beautiful village of Heartcross, surrounded by the people she loves, will be the place that will always bring them back to each other. Their forever home, Clover Cottage.

My Review:

I absolutely love this book series. From the moment I first read about the wonderful Heartcross community I was hooked so it’s great to be back for another visit. A great chance to catch up with the familiar friends we have already read so much about.

This time we concentrate on Allie and Rory. Rory is a vet, working with his father and Allie works at her parents pub. Rory’s parents decide to sell the house he currently lives in and gift the couple Clover Cottage. This is the start of a very emotional journey that leaves Allie and Rory looking at the future in very different ways.

Christie has given us a community full of heart – it is one I would love to be part of. The characters are so well written, with strong personalities that leap from the page. I always get so absorbed by their lives, I feel their pain and hurt, I am sad when they are sad, and I celebrate their happiness and successes.

Clover Cottage is a story about working together, communicating and supporting those we love even if it hurts us to do so. It shows that a little bit of selflessness goes a long way and for the greater good, sometimes you need to just let go.

I cannot recommend this enough, romantic yet full of depth and emotion it is so much more than a fluffy rom-com or anything like that. You don’t have to start at the beginning but I highly recommend reading the other books too, you will love this community as much as we do.

BLOGTOUR - The Ingredients for Happiness - Lucy Knott

AVAILABLE HERE

About:

Three sisters, a stash of family recipes, the chance to make their dreams come true…

Amanda is about to open her very own cafĂ©. She has the pastry sorted, but hasn’t a clue about the plumbing. With the love of her life by her side, surely nothing else can go wrong?
Sabrina has struck out on her own and is proving to the global music industry she has what it takes. However, balancing the business side of the band with her personal life will end up being more than she bargained for.
Louisa is drawing inspiration from the beautiful Amalfi coast, channelling it into creating gorgeous gowns for modern day Sophia Lorens. But putting herself out there in the fashion industry will present its own challenges, even with the ever-supportive Luca by her side.
With the right mix of perseverance, love and plenty of Italian delicacies, these three sisters are about to discover that when they support each other, the sky really is the limit!

My review:

This is the first book I’ve read by Lucy – I didn’t read the first in this series (I don’t know how that’s skipped me by though to be honest!) – but it’s a nice, easy read that you can enjoy without getting caught up in complicated plots and overlapping storylines, especially as you are following three sisters as your main characters.

Although I think you may benefit from having read the first as you will be fully invested in each character and understand their positions immediately, I don’t feel I lost anything and would say it’s easy to read as a standalone, you are fully caught up on each sister and what has happened previously.  You meet each sister trying to forge their own path in their relationships and careers.

The Italian style, recipes, lifestyle really comes across throughout the book and what amazing sounding recipes! Honestly you will be drooling all the way through, really adds to the story too. You can imagine yourself alongside the characters.
This is a lovely book that explores hopes and dreams, shows the work you must put it to follow your heart and it demonstrates the importance of family, no matter where if they are near, far or just fondly remembered.

I did find that everything seemed very good to be true, nothing seemed to “go wrong” and I was always expecting something dramatic to happen, or twist. Maybe that’s just how my mind works. It is a perfect read especially for summer, something you can pick up and read pretty quickly. I think the writing style is lovely and very descriptive too.

I’d definitely recommend.

BLOGTOUR: The Secret - Violet's Story: Eliza J Scott

The Secret – Violet’s Story
It’s been two years since glamorous and ambitious Violet Smith fell head-over-heels in love with blacksmith Jimby Fairfax, and moved back home to the North Yorkshire village of Lytell Stangdale to be with him.

Life couldn’t get much sweeter. Their romance is blooming and Romantique - the business she set up with Jimby’s sister Kitty, designing luxurious underwear and burlesque costumes with the odd wedding dress throw in - is thriving.

But on a romantic weekend break, a face from her past triggers a series of events which send Violet into turmoil. She finds herself with no alternative but to reveal a secret she’s buried deep for the past sixteen years. A secret she hasn’t shared with anyone, not even her best friends, Kitty and Molly, and they share everything.

With the revelation forcing a wedge between herself and Jimby, heartbroken Violet fears that he won’t ever be able to think of her in the same way again and won’t want anything more to do with her.

As ever, Kitty and Molly rally round, offering their advice and support but Vi is worried that keeping her secret was just a step too far for Jimby.

Will she succeed in showing him their love is strong enough to overcome it?

The Secret – Violet’s Story is book 3 in the Life on the Moors Series.

My Review:

You are in for a real gem with this book. What a cute, funny and emotional story with the focus on Violet. Her purple world, her gorgeous other half Jimby, wonderful friends and the idyllic community she loves being part of. We realise Violet has a secret that she has kept to herself for a very long time, does she risk everything and come clean? What will happen if those she loves know what she did?

I love Violet, she sounds gorgeous, glamourous and confident. She’s loved and loves in return and I don’t think there is a bad thing about her. When we find out about her secret, although it is awfully sad, we easily see that it wasn’t her fault and she was taken advantage of in a way. My heart broke for her when she did tell Jimby and he didn’t take the news well. I understood him being upset, hurt and wondering why she couldn’t be honest, but I think he handled it very poorly. (Don’t worry he soon sorts himself out!!)

There is a lot of heart and emotion throughout, moments of sadness are eclipsed by such tender, sweet scenes of special bonds between the characters.  There are some comedic moments with Jimby who is one of the most accident-prone characters I’ve ever read; his antics really added some lighter moments.

Eliza has a gorgeous writing style, very descriptive and the story progresses at a nice pace, I didn’t think it was rushed at all nor too slow. I read it quickly because I enjoyed it so much, I love how the stories played out, I loved learning more about these characters and I loved the community of Lytell Stangdale.

If you haven’t read the first two books, I really think you’ll be absolutely fine, but I’d recommend them anyway. A gorgeous read for fans of a heart-warming romance.

Thank you Eliza and Rach's Random Resources for the chance to read and review.
