My Review:

Lovely to have another return trip to Port Agnes and the Midwife team. This is the third book in the series although can be read as a standalone. This time we focus on Toni (whilst nicely catch up with old favourites). 
Previously unsure of Toni and why she seemed a little standoffish, this time we learn her back story – a personal tragedy that has affected all future relationships, if she was to ever go public with one.  We were aware of something between Toni and fellow midwife Bobby but never the true extent of things until this book. 
Once you know why Toni is the way she is, and acts the way she does, it is understandable if a little frustrating. Bobby is wonderful; kind and caring and has already proved how very patient and understanding he is. Pushed to his limits, he starts to think that it’s time to move on even if that would be the hardest thing to do. 
I  enjoyed the slight change of pace with this one, the previous two books were quite dramatic and this is more an emotional journey. 
Toni is a lovely character; my heart really went out to her but at times I just wanted her to wake up a little and see everything from another point of view. She keeps a lot to herself which is a shame as she is surrounded by the most supportive people. 
I liked the progression of the other characters stories too and I am very keen for the next book so we can hear more of Jess’ story. 
 A heart warming visit to the Cornish midwives this time but another great book in a very enjoyable series. Well written and full of loveable characters. Cosy up and have a read!

My Review:

An utterly charming and cosy read for this autumn. Julie Caplin is whisking readers away to the Emerald Isle with a story of romance, following your heart, taking chances and getting out of your comfort zone. The eighth book in this ‘Romantic Escapes’ series is set in beautiful Ireland, closer to home but still had me aching to get on a plane! If you haven’t come across this series the books are written as standalones, although connected through characters to previous books. I would implore you to read the rest of the series though, some of my favourite locations, characters and mouthwatering descriptions of food and drink you’ll read!

The Cosy Cottage in Ireland had me hooked from the first page, and I read in one glorious sitting. I loved the setting, the characters, and the story. Hannah is the sister of a character from the last book, she has been risk averse all her life and we meet her taking a leap of faith and doing something very out of character. Before heading to a world-famous culinary school, she meets a handsome, charming stranger and that meeting is the start of a whirlwind of ups and downs for her. Hannah is out of her comfort zone in so many ways, but as the weeks progress and as relationships with her fellow students develop, she starts to feel like her life is need of change and that perhaps Ireland holds the key.

Conor has given up a life others could only dream about, supporting his Mum with the culinary school is enough and creating dream cottages on their land is fuelling his creativity. He worries about getting close to people, he has been used by most people in his past and he is determined it will never happen again.

The chemistry and attraction between these two characters just cannot be denied, jumping off the page. They compliment each other perfectly, even when they don’t realise it themselves. Hannah is the most unromantic heroine and Conor is quick to jump to the wrong conclusion. When they need to work together, can they put differences aside?

LOVE LOVE LOVE. I was charmed by the descriptions of Ireland but the descriptions of the food, wow. I enjoyed the cast of characters, the humour (seriously couldn’t we have had a grand total of that swear jar ha!) and the heart that comes through the authors writing.
I have an idea where we may end up next, or at least some time in the future and I cannot wait. That being said, I hope we get to hear about a few of these characters again… (Please!!!!)

My Review:

A pleasure to be back in Mermaids Point with Autumn Dreams at Mermaids Point by Sarah Bennett. Although the second book in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone. The main character has changed to someone involved in the story in book one but not the focus, so it’s nice to get a chance to catch up with what’s happened to characters from before but also get a more in-depth look at someone else’s story. Mermaids Point is a cute, coastal village with interesting characters that create a good community feel. This time we mainly focus on the stories of Nerissa and Tom. Both characters have suffered heart-breaking losses and although their grief has calmed to a liveable level neither feel the need to move past that. The more we read the more we see that both are struggling with how they are; they miss that spark in their lives. Tom has two children and when they come to the village and slap bang into Nerissa’s life, things look set to change whether they want them to or not. As their friendship evolves, they both help each other heal in various ways. I love Nerissa and how she takes to both children, supporting them whilst not being too much too soon. With moments of laughter, emotion and drama this is a brilliant read. I hope there is a return visit soon, I can’t wait to catch up with all of these characters and see what fun is in store next.

My Review:
Sandy Barker always gives us such interesting, fun reads. They are brilliant!

Abby, writer and scathing critic of a reality dating show finds herself as a contestant on that very programme so to ensure her witty reviews score even more publicity for the show. Reluctant is not the word to describe how she feels about this but we see her take it on and fair play she handles everything far better than I would.

Her hilarious recaps of the show are what really kept me entertained throughout. I enjoyed seeing how Abby developed as a character, unsure at first the more she settled into the more she seemed to discover herself.

What a bunch of characters though; some to love and some most certainly to hate. They are all very well written and part of the fun!

I liked how the romance element was slow and steady, who would have thought in this nightmare scenario she would end up falling up for one of the show’s producers. Could love to put a spanner in her dream career plans?

Full of fun, wit and laughter. A great read, very well written. Highly recommended.

My Review:

Portia MacIntosh is one of my go to authors. Her books are romantic, funny and perfect for some light hearted reading. This latest novel is no exception, I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Emmy is a famous actress in a popular fantasy TV programme. Following a few rumours, she has been given the chop (quite literally – her character was beheaded!) and finds herself at a loose end. Following a family tragedy, she returns home to the Yorkshire village she grew up in. Soon immersed in the lives of her crazy family, she finds herself getting roped into a local production as well as renovating a house! Her agent thinks a local pantomime may just save her career and encourages Emmy to take part, although not everyone is happy, she is about to star in the show. She also revisits past relationships and friendships, realising some are happier to see her than she is to see them. With the truth always managing to come out, can Emmy repair her career, or does she realise her priorities are now elsewhere? A crazy bunch of characters, I liked them, although randy Aunty Vee may have been a bit much for me, I felt that I knew each one and they all played a specific part in the story. Plenty of laugh out loud moments in this one and although for once I wasn’t sure who the romantic interest would be, there is plenty of romance too. Highly recommended for a great end of summer read.

My Review:

This is the authors second book, and I admit I hadn’t read the first. Saying that – nothing took away from my enjoyment of ‘The Juggle’ at all, I enjoyed it from start to finish. Cherry Blossom Park is one of those typically wonderful book locations I’d love to be.

I enjoyed that the story was told from both Dan and Mollys point of view. I think it’s always interesting to see things from other perspectives.

I think the reason I enjoyed this book was that it was relatable – be it in the fact that often married couples do feel like the spark and chemistry leaves the marriage after life and children take over. Days can seem repetitive and the same for everyone. Sacrifices are made and that can have a big impact. It takes a step back, and a wake up call, to change unless it is too late. No good comes from secrets - or does it?

Well written, with enjoyable characters- some more than others though. A fast, fun read that will leave you eager for more. I will definitely look out for the next one by this author.

My Review:

As a huge fan of Jessica Redland, I couldn’t wait to start this wonderful, festive romance. I have to admit there is seems to be an awful lot of tragedy and heartbreak in this story, I was concerned there would be no happiness or romance at all, but I didn’t need to worry. Although Snowflakes Over The Starfish Café is a great portrayal of loss, it is a glorious story of love and overcoming challenges and fears in order to achieve your dreams or mend your heart. A classic tale of finding happiness, or love, where you least expect it.

I enjoyed this new setting and all the characters and hope we will return, although fans of her previous books will not be disappointed as there may just be some familiarity.

Hollie and Jake are interesting, complex characters, both understanding and connecting through loss and pain. With some mystery as to what Jake gets up to on a Monday, his reason for it is incredible. There is so much packed into this book, you’ll get swept away by Hollie and her commitment to what her Mum started, bowled over by Jake and his determination.

Be prepared with some tissues for this emotional ride. Highly recommended!
