A Winter Wonderland - Rosie Green

A Winter Wonderland

The festive season is fast approaching and the Little Duck Pond Café menu has been given a mouth-watering sprinkling of December magic. Jaz is hoping for the perfect festive season with little daughter Emma. But her feelings for next-door neighbour, Milo, are getting in the way. With his old love back on the scene, is she really prepared to risk her heart and make it the best Christmas ever?

My Review:

Perfect for this festive season! As always, Rosie Green takes us to Sunnybrook and the characters we have grown so fond of throughout this series. A community that continues to grow, thrive and bring us stories to pull on our emotions and carry us through whichever season.

This time we are focused on Jaz again, she’s been finding it hard to move on following her ex (boo) cheating on her. She has romantic interest in her next door neighbour but she has been so hurt it is difficult for her to fully trust again. Milo has the patience of a saint, their children get on so well, he really looks like he’s putting the effort into proving to Jaz he isn’t like her ex at all.

As Christmas approaches the village is as festive as ever, I love the exciting build up. We meet some new characters and both adds some festive sparkle for differing reasons, another chance for this wonderful community to shine and do what it is best at – helping those in need.

But when Jaz spots someone new in Milo’s life, no matter what he says to persuade her that is isn’t what it seems, Jaz struggles to believe him and its her own actions that cause the heartache.

Festive and feel good, the characters of old join with the new and deliver seasonal cheer. I love this series no matter the season but at Christmas it is just fabulous. Cosy up this Christmas and enjoy another wonderful novella from Rosie Green. I’m looking forward to a return to Sunnybrook soon.

Author Bio – Rosie’s series of novellas is centred around life in a country village cafe. Look out for THE SUNSHINE SISTERS – a heart-warming and thoroughly enchanting trilogy of books in the Little Duck Pond Café series, out early in 2024!

That Festive Feeling - Heidi Swain

Holly has the place to herself this Christmas. It’s not her place, though – she is house-sitting for friends who live on Nightingale Square – just there to keep the place warm and cosy and only for long enough for her to sort her life out. Newly single and finding herself unsure about next steps for her career, she plans to hunker down and make some life decisions.

To clear her mind, she sets off on early morning walks around a nearby lake and bumps into May, an older lady who is also new to the area, and her dapper Dachshund Monty. Quickly, a firm friendship blossoms. Then when Holly meets Bear, a rather large and rather attractive man, at the local pub, and his rescue dog Queenie, her stay at Nightingale Square suddenly feels even more appealing.

As the community comes together for the season’s festivities, Holly must start thinking about where her life will take her next. Some big decisions need to be made, but distractions close to home make thinking about the future more tricky than ever…

Will she get that festive feeling this Christmas…?

My Review:

Want to get into the festive spirit? Heidi Swain’s books will always leave you feeling ready for the season and ‘That Festive Feeling’ is just perfect for doing just that.

Having created many wonderful settings for us, Nightingale Square is so special and even more so at Christmas time. It’s a strong community with a great cast of characters (or friends as us Swainettes see them).

Holly is a great addition to the characters we love so much. She is housesitting for characters we already have come to know a little about and all she wants is to hide herself away, have a quiet time to evaluate her life/options for roving forward. She is adamant that she will not be drawn in to all the frolics and activities in the square, not matter how much any of the neighbours try to cajole her. Even I know this is not realistic with the Nightingale Square residents and soon Holly is finding herself getting involved.

Holly does strive for some quiet independence and soon becomes friends with a dog walker called May. May is the absolute best, what a colourful breath of fresh air she is, I adore her and would love to have her tenacity and character. The bond formed between these two characters is gorgeous, really so heart warming and it’s very clear both are helping each other in so many ways.

After a collision with Bear, Holly’s festive season is about to get busier and perhaps a little more complicated than she expected. Bear lives in an ‘alternative’ home and is quite keen to show Holly she has options she had never considered.

An absolutely gorgeous story with friendship at the heart of it all. Encouraging people to take chances, make changes and putting a bit of trust in other people again. Although it is a romance, it gives us so much more – comedy, drama, heart warming messages of kindness and compassion. A story to inspire people to follow their hearts and dreams, think outside the box and to always add a little more colour to their lives.

Left me feeling all warm and fuzzy. Another Heidi Swain classic!!

My Review:

I genuinely look forward to each of Bella’s books as I know it will be quality, entertaining and a blooming great story. The Perfect Village Christmas is wonderful – I was enthralled with each page I sat and devoured. It is a Perfect Christmas book and will leave you feeling festive fuzzies.

The village of Holly Cross is my kind of place and yet again I wish I lived in such a brilliant community. I think each character was brilliant, even Leonora who was perhaps a bit full on (but for the right reasons really!) Reading about their efforts to become the ‘Perfect Christmas village’ had me laughing and feeling all sentimental.

Blythe is desperate to prove herself and sells a house in her local village to Sam, unaware that he is harbouring some secrets. Sam moves to Holly Cross and is not a fan of Christmas, in fact he hates it – which proves challenging in this village. Soon regretting his choices, he is determined to ignore everyone’s, especially Blythe’s, efforts this festive season.

Blythe is determined to make him see the good in Christmas no matter what. On many occasions she pushes her festive agenda and in my opinion really pushes her luck with him. I’m amazed he tolerated as much as he did! There is something about their connection though and it is clear to see the spark between them.

A story full of shenanigans, pumpkin picking, fireworks and festive fun at the sexy Santa dinner; a whole community pulling together and being there for each other. All have very different reasons for being so involved in the village activities but it’s clear everyone cares for one another too. Fun characters, heart warming moments, comedy and charm – what more do you need this time of year.

I cannot recommend this one enough. It’s a must read this Christmas, I suggest you ask Santa very nicely and get a copy!

Purchase Link - https://mybook.to/greekmidwintersocial

My Review:

Do I look forward to Mandy Baggot’s ‘festive’ books? You bet I do. Do I love when Mandy whisks us away to glorious locations? Always. Have I loved the combination of both? ABSOLUTELY!!

After some of my favourite festive reads over the years, In the Greek Midwinter is yet another gem that left me ready for the season ahead. It is heartwarming and romantic but at it’s core it’s about people allowing themselves to believe – whether that’s in other people or a little bit festive magic. It’s a story of two people who both had difficult starts in life, coming together and discovering they have so much more in common than they realised.

Jen is a festive fanatic, the season reminds her of the moments in life she can think of fondly. She doesn’t let people in, not easily and never completely. She can put hurt behind her – or so she thinks. When a romantic break doesn’t go as planned, a change of scene leads to some life changing discoveries.

Astro cannot stand the season and rallies against his uncles plans to decorate everything. The season intensifies a pain he cannot move on from. His hidden passion is a way for him to unleash his feelings, even if it risks getting in trouble.

When their worlds collide, can they find a way to get along with each feeling so strongly. I loved the dynamic between these two characters, seeing how their relationship developed over the course of the book.

A whole cast of supporting characters make this book so entertaining and really funny. I loved Natalia – Jen’s ‘colleague’ from the Ukraine who looks after her business whilst Jen is in Greece. She is very “gangster- esque” but in a humorous way, someone to keep onside. Achilles is a brilliant character, his enthusiasm for all things jumps off the page.

A great book to cosy up with this festive season, let the snow fall (no matter where you may be!) and enjoy the read. Another great story from Mandy Baggot, festive and in Greece; what a fab combination.

My Review:

Firstly, I have to say how much I adore all of Jessica Redlands books, no matter which series, setting or characters; her writing always captures me. I was so excited to be back in Castle Street and loved the idea of a cat café! After this book I definitely want to visit one.

At many points it appears that Tabby may not get to open her much longed for cat café, she faces adversity from all angles – crazed ex-girlfriends, animal activists, an ex who let her down as well as a body that leaves her in so much pain she cannot function no matter how much she wishes she could. Hard to read but incredible to learn more about a condition I’d only ever heard of and didn’t realise the extent to which it can debilitate a person. Luckily for Tabby she has a wonderful community around her, family, friends and fellow business owners.

I adored hearing about the different cats, just picturing their antics adding some light relief and cute moments. Part of why I love Jessica’s books is for the sense of community that is developed; how people come together to help and support each other – always makes me wish I could join them!

There are moments of pain and sadness but it’s overwhelming a story about acceptance, perseverance, recognising that you can ask for help and that nothing needs to hold you back when following your dreams. Of course, we have romance and at first it threw me, I didn’t expect it but I soon realised the pairing was completely right.

Festive spirit, cute cats and romance; a fabulous read.

Christmas Nights at the Star and Lantern - Helen Rolfe

A wonderful story of love, friendship and opening your mind and your heart to new possibilities that will enchant fans of Holly Martin and Heidi Swain.

The Copper Plough is at the heart of village life for the residents of Heritage Cove, and never more so than at Christmas, when the tree glows in the alcove and the smell of mulled wine carries out onto the street. So when new owners for the beloved pub arrive and decide to shake things up, not everyone welcomes the changes with open arms.

Local bakery owner Celeste is ready to keep an open mind. But she’s shocked to discover that one of the new landlords is Quinn, a former Navy sailor with whom she had a short but powerful romance years earlier.

Fate may have brought Quinn and Celeste back together, but life seems determined to keep them apart. Can the villagers learn to embrace the newcomers this Christmas? And will Quinn and Celeste find a way back to each other before snow falls over Heritage Cove?

Purchase Link - https://mybook.to/StarandLanternSocial

My Review:

A return trip the Cove… at Christmas… YES PLEASE!

I adore this series, the characters, the setting, the sense of community that I wish I was part of. At least while reading these books I am.

If you haven’t read any of this series you can fully enjoy this as a standalone but I do highly recommend reading others, they are fantastic.

Celeste is quite the independent woman, she knows what she wants in all areas of her life. She is happy being a businesswoman, having her sister and niece close by, and being surrounded by friends and part of a close community. A chance encounter with Quinn gave her a short, enjoyable fling; both happy with the short time they had.

When the local pub is bought and renamed, the villagers wonder how their local ‘community hub’ will change and if the new landlord will fit in. When opening day arrives, there are surprises all around and with the community’s favourite member, Barney, taking ill and being rushed to hospital, emotions and tensions are high.

Quinn is back, desperate to see the woman who captured his heart in such a small time but when he finally sees her again, she is distant and pushes him away. He is worried that anyone find out about his past and what issues he is desperately trying to hide, but could there be a way back for him?

At some points this story looked as though it may be the bleakest, saddest Christmas tale of all. Worry for one of the lovely characters I have grown to adore, Barney who is like everyone’s Grandad as well as feelings of heartache, loss, fear. A rollercoaster of emotions but wow, when those warm and fuzzies hit they warmed my heart. I liked Celeste, she is certain what life she wants to lead but it can blind her to what is in front of her. Quinn is a good man, he sounds gorgeous but is troubled; he has seen and done so much that nobody could comprehend but fear of what people may think also stops him doing what is best for him.

Mouthwatering descriptions of treats, eats and drinks yet again, it’s probably a good thing this is a fictional place otherwise I would be there and enjoy sampling everything.

Helen is a go-to author, I enjoy her writing and the characters and settings she brings to life. With the perfect amount of festive cheer to get you ready for the season.

Great read, highly recommended.

The Gingerbread House in Mistletoe Gardens -

The Gingerbread House in Mistletoe Gardens

The perfect cosy and uplifting romance to curl up with this winter!

In Mistletoe Gardens a legend exists: anyone who kisses underneath the mistletoe will be guaranteed another year of love…

When local baker Essie Browne discovers that Mistletoe Gardens is to be demolished in January, she’s determined to save the place she loves so much. So Essie proposes building a life size gingerbread house to bring in the crowds…just how hard can it be?

Well, quite hard actually. Essie can bake gingerbread blindfolded, but she hasn’t got a clue how to build an actual house with it! She needs help - and fast!

Enter local builder, Joss Hallissey. Essie is convinced that with Joss’s help they can pull this off. There’s just one tiny problem: Joss hates Christmas, gingerbread, and… well, just about everything else too.

Joss the Grinch makes it clear that her idea is ludicrous and pointless, but he reluctantly agrees to help with her plan.

Will the gingerbread house be enough to save Mistletoe Gardens? Or will Essie's chance for a magical kiss under the mistletoe be lost forever?

Perfect for fans of Holly Martin, Kat French and Caroline Roberts!

Purchase Link - https://mybook.to/Gingerbreadhousesocial

My Review:

As a long time fan of Jaimie Admans’ I was anticipating a charming, heart warming story with sweet characters, wonderful, enchanting locations and a sprinkling of magic, of course I was not disappointed.

A festive story that filled me with that cosy, warm feeling, where my heart was full and fuzzy with love and festive spirit. A story of hope, determination, a resolve to make changes and also to find the best of everyone and of course, to embrace tradition and celebrate love.

Essie, local baker extraordinaire, loves where she lives, the people, the place and has vowed to never leave. Mistletoe Gardens is a special place to all who live there and when to discover upcoming plans to demolish this much-loved place she sets her sights on making a stand, saving Mistletoe Gardens. Her plan, outrageously, is to build a life size gingerbread house, but whilst she can bake, she has no idea on how to build and needs help.

Joss hates Christmas, and pretty much most things. He wants to be away from the place that holds painful memories and definitely has no real intention on getting involved in anything community spirited. He has a few loose ends to finish up and then he plans to go.

My first “festive” read of the season and I think it will take a lot to top this one. I adored it, felt like I was there with Essie in Mistletoe Gardens. She is a spirited young lady and knows what she wants, lacking in the ability to speak up for herself after being hurt in the past. Mistletoe Gardens sounds like such a festive, special place – I’d love to take a trip there myself.

With a cast of very unique characters, you will laugh, you will feel emotional but you will remember that magical feel we can forget as we get older. This story will reignite that sense of wonder and will have you ready for the season! Fantastic read that will be a favourite!

The Christmas Castle in Scotland - Julie Caplin

The Christmas Castle in Scotland

Izzy McBride had never in a million years expected to inherit an actual castle from her great uncle Bill but here she was, in the run up to Christmas, Monarch of her own Glen – a very rundown glen in need of a lot of TLC if her dream of turning it into a boutique bed and breakfast was to come true.

But when Izzy’s eccentric mother rents a room to enigmatic thriller author Ross Adair and the Scottish snow starts to settle like the frosting on a Christmas cake, it’s a race to get the castle ready before they’re all snowed in for the holidays.

Christmas cosied up in a great castle in Scotland? YES PLEASE!

I absolutely adore every book from Julie Caplin, every location and story incite the feelings of wanderlust within me and I wish I could be right there and this is no exception, in fact I think it’s the one I really do hope I can do one day.

I did not want this story to end (I never do), I think this is the best yet – the setting, the characters, plot and Julies’ wonderful writing style is like a comfort blanket, hugging you, keeping you warm and right in the thick of the action.

I love the characters especially as they are such an eclectic bunch; each have their own personality and it is easy to picture them (or in Duncan’s case hear their accent!)

Izzy is our leading lady and we have met her briefly in the last book (it isn’t a series as such so you can read this without any of the previous books – although I highly recommend you do!) and she has inherited a castle in Scotland she is hoping to turn into a hotel. Doing this alongside an eccentric (but loveable) Mum who has rented out a room to a writer, without Izzys knowledge of course. This writer is paying for peace and quiet although it soon becomes apparent; he is getting more than he bargained for.

Getting the hotel ready in time for the festive season (and another booking taken by Izzy’s Mum) means a real team effort and a lot of

soul searching by all involved. As everyone pulls together and becomes a unique, slightly dysfunctional family unit we see them overcoming adversities in all aspects of their lives.

As always this is a story with romance at its core, but don’t expect smooth sailing, there is drama and tension thrown in as well but with ups and downs will every character find a positive ending?

I wish we could go back and revisit, just to see how they are all getting on. It’s a wonderful, cosy read and I cannot praise Julie enough.

Purchase Link - https://amzn.to/3uGH8LP

My Review:

Happy Endings at Mermaids Point is the final book in this brilliant series by Sarah Bennett. I’m gutted as I love this little community and it’s residents who we have come to know and love.

We had had to wait a while for this story – Aurora and Nick. We first came across Aurora in book one, when the town was whipped into a frenzy over mermaid sightings, but I am so glad we finally got to find out more about her as well as Nick, who I’ve felt really sorry for over the series of books.

Auroras career takes an unexpected turn and there is a social media frenzy, she needs to escape and turns to the man (and the place) where she can feel safe and secure.  Nick and Mermaids Point; she knows she may not be welcome after the way she left things but has little option.

Nick is surprised to hear from Aurora, after all the time he has spent trying to get over her and move forward with his own plans but he won’t turn his back on someone in need.

I won’t ruin any of the story, but I enjoy seeing how the story plays out, we see a real change in Aurora (not that she was all bad at all) but being in Mermaids Point really suits her, so much so we find her making some really big decisions. Nick brings out the best in her, as she does in him – it is clear to see how happy is he with her around.

As always the community, and whole family, welcome Aurora with open arms, especially during the festive season. A wonderful Christmas read, full of heart warming, winter cheer. It’s a perfect end to a fantastic series, I shall miss the characters and the community but I will eagerly await more from Sarah.

Thank you for giving us a great series of books, I highly recommend Happy Endings at Mermaids Point but really recommend you start from book one and enjoy every moment!

Just Date and See - Portia MacIntosh

Billie is looking forward to a quiet, man-free Christmas. It’s just a shame her family doesn't feel the same way…

With a house full of unexpected (and unwanted) guests, Billie needs to find the perfect escape to get away from the chaos.

So when her dating app recommends a week of singles nights in her area, Billie decides that braving these events has to be better than making conversation with her dad’s new wife, dealing with her mum's mid-life crisis or witnessing her sister flirting with her insufferably arrogant next-door neighbour.

While this is definitely not the festive season she had planned, between disco bowling and boozy bingo, little does Billie know that she may find love this year after all - she'll just have to date and see...

Fall in love with the perfect laugh-out-loud festive read from top 10 bestseller Portia MacIntosh.

Purchase Link - https://amzn.to/3NgWHjA

My Review:

As a big fan of Portia’s books, Just Date and See did not let me down. It was highly entertaining, funny, interesting and a eclectic mix of characters; some you love, some you instantly dislike.

Main character Billie is looking forward to a calm, man-free Christmas, looking forward to some peace and quiet in her house over the festive period. Poor Billie has no chance! As her house fills up with (un)invited guests (each with various bad habits) her dream of that Christmas slowly turns into a nightmare.

To escape Billie takes drastic action by signing up to every singles event she can. Meeting another like-minded soul, she is soon having fun and adventures of her own. But are things too good to be true? What secrets are being kept and why?

I loved It from start to finish. I loved Billies character and really felt for her, she is taking advantage of by just about everyone in her life. Luckily she has support in the unlikeliest of places.

Another hit that is perfect reading this upcoming festive season.
