My Review:

Sunrise over Strawberry Hill Farm is the third book in the Railway Lane series. I’ve enjoyed the previous books so have been looking forward to Flora’s story.

Having met Flora in the previous books, I felt like I knew her already. It had been made clear her strong connection to her Grams, the farm they live on and that she has a strong work ethic and is committed to their livelihood.

Flora is wondering what more they can do to ensure they don’t lose the farm when a visitor from Italy comes and definitely shakes things up in more ways than one. Flora isn’t impressed with the new face around the farm and doesn’t trust him at all, she believes he has a certain reputation that makes him completely bad news.

Nico isn’t all that he seems, he has had a life of being cast aside but the world believing his life to be perfect. He wants to prove himself but often doesn’t get the chance.

He wants to help Flora and Grams save their home, but he has work to do to convince Flora he is more than he first appears.

Admittedly I found Flora to be a little… boring, well maybe that’s harsh, but she is so steady and cautious. I wished for her to live a little so when Nico came on the scene, I hoped she would learn to do this. Nico is a gorgeous sounding young man; he is kind and considerate and follows his heart.

I love the idea they work on for the farm, it sounds idyllic and definitely a profitable venture to secure their home. It was also great to catch up with characters from previous books too. I enjoy how Alison Sherlock has created a lovely community feel within her books, the writing is so descriptive you can almost smell the lavender fields, taste the delicious pizzas and hear the sounds of the beautiful countryside.

A great read to kick start the year, well written with interesting characters and feel-good storylines. I look forward to the next in this series.

It all sounds perfect – but can reality ever live up to your dreams?

My Review:

A series I love,  I always look forward to the next book. Whilst there was little Duck Pond Café in this book, we still have that sense of community and we still come across familiar characters.

Krystle has got herself in a little bit of trouble and really doesn’t want to have to seek the help of her twin, who always has her life together. Krystle really surprised me at the start, I hadn’t imagined the character getting herself into such a pickle, she seemed a bit immature and I think this only served to emphasise how much she developed and matured as the story progressed.

Who hasn’t dreamt of winning the lottery at some point? When Carries numbers come up she automatically shares with her twin, and it happened just in the nick of time.

Krystle does get a little carried away at first and becomes wary of people getting in touch just because of the win. Her ex suddenly wants to see her, and other men suddenly seem quite keen; she isn’t sure who she can actually trust, especially when things don’t seem to really add up. She keeps being told things but finding evidence to prove they are lies, can she actually trust the people around her anymore? Adam is her best friend, he keeps her grounded and since one snog, Krystle has wondered if there could be any more between them.

We certainly had some twists and turns with this one, at the start I wasn’t fully keen on Krystle but she grew on me as we read on. I think this is a wonderful addition to the series, it can be read as a standalone though so don’t worry if you haven’t had chance to catch up yet.

A fun, light-hearted novella with loveable characters and of course, Rosie's wonderful writing style that keeps you entertained throughout.

My Review:

Helen Rolfe is one of my absolutely, must-read authors; every book is a joy to read. I loved the first book in this series so getting the chance to read and review Summer at Forget Me Not cottage, well I obviously jumped for joy!

Locations can really make me fall in love with a book/series and this idyllic setting (and its locals) just make me want to bag my bags. Helen describes the homes and surroundings so beautifully; you really do feel like you are right there.

Morgan moves back home to support her ailing Mother, leaving her partner to move to Scotland without her - for now. She fully intends on joining him as soon as possible, but months after her Mum’s death she is still there and doesn’t seem to be making any plans on joining Ronan. Morgans sister joins her, to sort through the cottage and suggests Morgan may actually like to stay there for a while longer, live there and figure out what it is that she wants to do.

Nate is back to visit his Dad, Trevor. Having lived in Wales for some time he is concerned that his Dad is struggling and would like to convince him to move to Wales too. Nate struggles being back, he feels guilty and is still coping with the loss of his Mother.

Thrown together at the local market by having to share a stall, Nate and Morgan are both working through struggles, both hurting and not quite sure of what to do for the best.

The prefect cosy read and a wonderful escape, a story about letting go; of hurt, of the past and allowing yourself to be happy again. Finding new beginnings in old haunts.

A great summer read, I can never recommend Helens books enough!

My Review:

I was expecting something quirky and different, that’s what I read. Introverted Lucy, who I initially didn’t think I’d gel with, needs a change following the successful sale of an app and a serious medical diagnosis.

Settling into her new countryside, temporary, abode she is met with creatures – great and small. A poorly donkey, a noisy cockerel, some llama to the mice in the kitchen, she seems to be stuck with them and to give her credit she does what she can for them. Local postie is always around to provide advice or spread information, soon the vet is popping in to check on the donkey as well as the mother and son who seem to stop by and enjoy the animals whenever they get chance.

Lucys world seems to be busier then ever, but in all the best ways. As the donkeys gets better, we notice Lucy has a brand new lease of life. It looks like the move was possibly the best thing for her.

Her stay is only supposed to be temporary but as each day passes it looks unlikely Lucy could return to life as it was.

A very sweet read, I enjoyed Lucy discovering parts of herself she’d hidden and was blossoming thanks to this “new life.” I wanted to know more about her, see how her fledgling friendships develop and how life with the animals continues.

A short, but well written read.

My Review:

A twisted story of revenge, plotting to get exactly what you want and doing whatever it takes, or going wherever needed, to put your plans into action.

Full of suspense and intrigue, I was keen to read on and get to the end, finding out what happened to certain characters that fully deserved whatever came their way. I have to admit there are no characters I absolutely loved, even Flo wasn’t my cup of tea really. I wasn’t convinced about some of the things she did or the relationships she forged. Her connection with Ciara’s brother was interesting, I was expecting more from his character by the end as well.

Some twists and turns along the way but nothing that completely surprised me, I could work out what was going to happen and that’s ok, I enjoyed it. Sometimes too many red herrings/plot twists can be off putting. I liked that this went where I hoped it would.

This was an entertaining read, paced and well written. I would definitely recommend.

My Review:

Summer Nights at the Starfish Café is the third and final book in the Starfish Café Series and what a way to go. This whole series has been brilliant – drama, emotion, ups and downs; a host of great characters (and not so great of course) but at the root of it is love, determination, over coming adversity and being surrounded by the best people. This third book sums this all up nicely, with old faces making a not so welcome return, heartbreak and strength playing a massive part in every characters story in some way.

Emotional rollercoaster doesn’t really do this one justice; prepare yourselves and get hankies ready. Hollie and Jake have been through so much, individually and together, happy endings, wedded bliss and a rosy future for book three? Well…. Not quite, not right away at least. I won’t say more but these guys are made of tough stuff.

Kerry and her brood are in for some surprises, a blast of the past returns to seek something they believe they should have and this reveals a whole history that causes pain and anguish. I think Kerry is amazing in this situation though, classy and putting those she loves most first every time. A dramatic rollercoaster tinged with healing hearts, new starts and interesting developments.

I didn’t think I would be so ok with this series ending but feel this book really did them all justice, I liked the cameos from Castle Street friends and love that there is always that nod to previous stories in other series.  I will miss them all and wish I could go visit though – for goodies and seals if nothing else.

Great writing as always by Jessica Redland, a go to author for great settings and loveable characters.

My Review:

I had high hopes for this new series from Sarah Bennett and this is a brilliant start. I adored Mermaids Point so was excited to see where we would be next. Juniper Meadows sounds great, I love the idea of some big estate and already can sense there is so much to explore and discover. There are some lovely characters (and already one I could happily not see again) that have created some interesting relationships I am keen to see develop. I wonder what will play out, who will find love etc. 
With family secrets, historic finds, romance and drama; I feel like there is much more to come and I couldn’t be happier. I am already intrigued and love the quirky characters. 
A nicely paced, calm read that pulls you in from the start, I loved the historic element and wonder if more will come from that. I have high hopes for Cameron and Hope, will there romance be a short term or something long lasting? Will any further secrets be uncovered affecting the lives of the family?
A lovely read, realistic and with characters that are believable and interesting. I will look forward to the next!

My Review:

A new book by Jessica Redland? COUNT ME IN! As a fan of her books I couldn’t wait to meet some fantastic new characters but was thrilled at a sneaky cameo from some old favourites too! 

 

Typical of any book by Jessica Redland, this story pulled me in, dented my heart a little but fully restored it by the end. A full range of emotions, lots of ups and downs within this tale of looking for love and following your heart. With some great, lovable characters and some who are just downright awful, there’s a mixture of heart warming romance, comedy moments, along with sadness and righting old wrongs.  

 

Barney is such a great character, lovable, true to himself  and getting to know him better was a joy. Fans of Hedgehog Hollow may recognise him as the brother of Fizz. Looking for love on a TV show isn’t what you’d typically expect of a farmer and this doesn’t end up being your typical dating show.

 

Amber is TV producer extraordinaire, who is confident and takes no fools.Having to work with people who have caused trouble in the past is a challenge, but one she takes on. Her chemistry with Barney is instant but she wants to concentrate on finding him love with a contestant that is more his type.

 

A charming story, full of heart and emotion, everything I have come to expect from a Jessica Redland book. I couldn’t put it down and think for fans, it’ll be like picking up a favourite, cosy blanket. For readers new to Jessica, you have a glorious selection of books to discover after this!

My Review

Fantastic to be kickstarting my blog this year with an author I enjoy time after time! What a blast this book was, I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. There is drama, fun, mischief and a true enemies to lovers trope that makes books like this so much fun to read. 

Serena is an interesting character, but one I instantly liked and was rooting for. She just has no luck and it all seems to happen at once for her. When we meet Ziggy, well it’s clear there’s a spark but crikey me they go head to head it trying to wind the other up. Of course, this leads to lots of fun, laughs for us reading but the inevitable romance. Loved how it played out, enjoyed how other characters adding more comedic elements. You have got quite the villain of the piece, a creep of a boyfriend but all isn’t as it seems and Serenas  attempts at outing him are hilarious despite how hurt she must feel. 

Written in true Portia style, it was well paced and entertaining. I know what to expect from Portias books and I wasn’t disappointed by this latest book. As always I look forward to reading  more.

My Review:

Another smashing read from Eliza J Scott and her Life on the Moors series. As always it’s a story full of warmth, character and love.A feel good story that gives you a cosy warm feeling all the way through. 

 

Amongst characters we have already met and taken to heart, we have Brogan who is restarting her veterinary nurse career and new vet Nick. When they meet on their first days, both realise where they have met before and all can see the sparks flying. 

When situations, drama and moors life throw the pairing together, it’s easy to see their relationship is full of spark but can both allow themselves to follow their hearts. 

 

When the village comes under threat and loved ones are affected, Brogan and Nick become closer than ever. Fate plays it’s hand throughout this winter filled treat, a story of love, friendships and connections but also in allowing people close and taking a chance. 

 

Written as part of a series but easily read as a standalone book, the sense of community is what I love about these books. A gorgeous story in a brilliant setting. Highly recommended!
