My Review:

I discovered Jane Linfoot two years ago thanks to a quick stop at our local library where I found one of the wonderful Little Wedding Shop by the Sea series. Enthralled by it, I soon caught up on the whole series plus every other book I could. The Little Wedding Shop has always firmly remained in my heart.

Imagine my absolute delight to discover we were going back to St Aidan, to the gorgeous Cornwall village I’d become so fond of.

Although part of a series, you could read this as a standalone, you’d not be confused or be wondering about anything at all. It may just spur you on to want to read the others though.

This time we meet Milla who is using this time in Cornwall as an escape; her ex and her business partner are now together and to make it worse are having a baby! Wronged by those she was closest too she has come away to ‘hide’ from what is happening, but instead of hiding she fully gets involved in things in The Little Wedding Shop by the Sea.’ Of course, if you have read any books from the series you know that this is very typical, and we have seen how that shop has a way of getting under everyone’s skin.

I loved Milla. She is quite the character and I felt really sorry for her, she is also quite clumsy and that provided some funny moments. Her interactions with Nic are amusing, if not frustrating. Nic comes along at the perfect time, whether it is for a cheeky kiss or to give Milla the boost she needs – professionally and personally. He is quite the confident and charming character I think. He sounds delicious!

As I read through, I was captivated by our characters, new and old favourites alike, their story and the atmosphere created by the location. Jane’s writing really captures this beautifully. I enjoyed seeing how Millas character developed and evolved. Slower paced than some other romantic fiction books, I like the way we get to know each character and connect with them.

It’s a heart warming, funny and romantic story. Jane Linfoot is an author who is always on my must read list.

Thank you to Netgalley, Jane Linfoot and One More Chapter/Harper Collins UK for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

About the Author:

I write fun, flirty fiction, with feisty heroines, and lots of heart. Writing is fab, because I get to wear pretty shoes instead of wellies. I live in a cottage up a mountain road in Derbyshire, where my family and pets are kind enough to ignore the domestic chaos. Happily, we're in walking distance of a supermarket. I love hearts, flowers, happy endings, all things vintage, most things french. When I'm not on facebook, and can't find an excuse for shopping, I'll be walking, or gardening. On days when I want to be really scared, I ride a tandem.

BLOGTOUR: Unexpected Lessons in Love - Lucy Dillon

From the SUNDAY TIMES bestselling author of Where the Light Gets in and All I Ever Wanted.

What happens when 'I do' turns into 'I don't know'?

Jeannie always wanted to fall in love, and now she’s finally got the whirlwind romance she dreamed of. Dan’s gorgeous, he’s a successful young vet, and he flew her to New York and proposed on Brooklyn Bridge. Jeannie has to remind herself this is actually her life. It seems too perfect, too magical, to be real. Yet it is.

But now she’s on her way to the wedding she can’t shake off the tight sensation crushing her chest. Is it just nerves . . . or is this all happening a bit too fast?

Jeannie has one last chance to shout, ‘Stop!’ But just as she grabs it, a twist of fate throws everything she knows into the air like confetti. What Jeannie learns about Dan, about her own heart, and about the power of love itself, will change her world for ever . . .

My Review:

I want to be extra careful; I don’t want to give anything away at all, this is one book that deserves to be unspoiled. This is beautiful, a wonderful read that tugged on my heart strings. In fact, I was so absorbed by Lucy’s brilliant storytelling I read it in one sitting.

The characters (well Jeannie really) had me frustrated at times, but they all took me on an emotional rollercoaster too. It was a good look at the different types of relationships we can have, and lose, in life. Romantic relationships, friends old and new, lost love, and families.

Jeannie has had a whirlwind year, I understand being swept away by the romance, the love story and the desire for the happy ever after but I didn’t see why a woman, who displays great independent spirit later in the book, wouldn’t have applied the brakes a bit earlier. I did grow to adore her, I felt for her and she did grow throughout the book.  I wanted her to be happy, find the love she so clearly sought and deserved.

This book was so much more than I first expected, I loved the women Jeannie grew close too in the village and thought their fundraising idea was inspired!

I would encourage you to have a read, it won’t disappoint. I’d recommend books by this author, never disappoints and gives you something to warm your heart.

Thank you to Hannah (and now Hayley) at Transworld Books – Penguin Random House for the advanced copy in exchange for review.

BLOGTOUR: Last Orders at the Star and Sixpence - Holly Hepburn

About the book:
Nestled in the quiet countryside sits the cosy village of Little Monkham, home of The Star and Sixpence, a renovated pub owned by sisters Sam and Nessie. As the locals welcome the new season, it appears that change is afoot in their tiny community, and not all of it for the better... Nessie is moving in with her boyfriend, leaving Sam alone in the pub. But with the arrival of new chef Gabriel causing a flutter among the women of the village, it seems that Sam might not be so lonely after all. Having just recently come out of a relationship, Sam’s attraction to Gabe is inconvenient, but that’s the least of her worries when an unexpected visitor arrives at the pub, determined to stir up trouble. As Gabe and Sam grow closer, Little Monkham’s latest arrival threatens to reveal a secret that will turn more than one world upside down.

Can Sam and Nessie work through the fall out, or is it really last orders at The Star and Sixpence?

*** Last Orders at the Star and Sixpence is the bind-up of the new Star and Sixpence e-novellas. If you have already enjoyed the novellas, then you have already enjoyed Last Orders at the Star and Sixpence***

My Review:

Now, I do enjoy a good novella but oh the joys of when those novellas are popped together in one book, which is the case here.
I’m so glad I got to read all this deliciousness in one fell swoop, I don’t know if I could’ve hung on between novellas.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about this wonderful village, such a fantastic sense of community and of friendship – I would love to live in Little Monkham.  The descriptions are so well written, everything sounds wonderful as Holly as brought this place to life.

What a cast of characters too – fun, quirky, individuals who together make such a lovely bunch of people. Nessie and Sam are so well loved by every customer, friend and villager. It’s nice to see how they all rally round each other in times of need as well as in celebration. Discovering a new brother, the sisters are very quick to welcome him into the pub - a little bit too quick if you ask me; I immediately had him pegged as a bad sort!

Both Nessie and Sam find challenges throughout the storyline, each feeling they couldn’t turn to the other; I was gutted for them as I understand how strong a sisterly bond truly is. They have a rollercoaster of a journey together but also individually. With fun, emotional highs you also get the gut wrenching and heart-breaking lows. I was kept intrigued and wondered what they would do to improve their situations (I don’t want to give too much away if I’m honest!) but with matters of the heart, family troubles, loss and deceit all playing their part – you just know it’s not all plain sailing.
Holly Hepburn has given us such a lovely, romantic yet humorous story with character you will adore and want to know more about. I would love to see what happens next with many of them. I was totally immersed in the book and finished within a couple of sittings… I didn’t really want it to end.

I would recommend if you are looking for an enjoyable, easy read that will take you away and leave you feeling all warm, cosy and full of friendship.

Thank you to Holly Hepburn and Simon and Schuester UK.

Something Extra Special:

Top Five Things You Didn’t Know About Holly Hepburn

1.
She loves cooking and is an especially keen baker – people have been known to call her the queen of meringues!2. One of her first jobs was working in a bar, where she met the boyfriend who would become the inspiration for Joss Felstead and who taught her everything she knows about managing a pub cellar, including how to change a barrel and how to clean the lines.3. Owen Rhys is also based on an ex-boyfriend, although he wasn’t a blacksmith. To learn how to write about Owen’s job, Holly spent a day working in a forge and is very proud to have made a toasting fork all by herself from scratch, which she describes as one of the hardest things she’s ever done.
4. The physical appearance of delectable chef, Gabe Santiago, was inspired by Santiago Cabrera, who played Aramis in the BBC’s TV show The Musketeers. Holly took her research very seriously and watched the show repeatedly to get Gabe’s character just right…5. She makes a mean cocktail – ask her to whip up a Silver Sixpence (the signature Star and Sixpence cocktail from her first novel) and she’ll be happy to oblige. Once again, she selflessly takes the research required for writing about cocktails seriously and is always on the look-out for inspiration.
